This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Important notice: The UN Volunteer for this position should be fluent in English. Fluency in French and/or Spanish will be a strong asset.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Online Communications Unit Manager, and in close collaboration with colleagues in the Online Communications Unit, the UN Volunteer will carry out the following tasks:

1. Support the migration of IOM’s websites (Missions, Regional Offices and Project websites) to a new platform/template in conformity with IOM corporate guidelines, working with IOM’s offices around the world, under the supervision of the head of IOM’s Online Communications Unit and the lead of the special surge team for the migration of IOM websites.

2. Work with websites’ focal points (working under Missions, Regional Offices or specific Projects) to support the migration of relevant content from their existing website to the new platform.

3. Support and implement when needed the minimum needed re-conceptualisation/adaptation of websites in line with the new platform/template; ensuring a well-designed, well-structured, easy to navigate and high quality written and visual content (based on the existing content and implementing the minimum required adaptations for the new information architecture/template) that conforms to web usability and content management standards.

4. Provide overall editorial direction and training to websites’ focal points; edit, organize and structure content while maintaining a consistent voice and style.

5. Migrate, update and adjust as needed content for the websites, ensuring quality standards, accuracy, tone and house style.

6. Post content via the content management system.

7. Ensures IOM’s editorial standards are applied to all websites migrated to the new platform; ensure accuracy and clarity of all content appearing on the websites.

Educational additional comments

  • Degree in Communications, Public Information, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations or a related field.

Experience remark

• Background in journalism, communications and/or advocacy.

• Experience producing, editing and disseminating multimedia content for online audiences ideally for media outlets, international brands, NGOs, or other international institutions.

• Experience using content management systems (experience using Drupal would be an asset) and other advanced tools for online publishing and distribution of content.
