This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Reporting into the Team Leader, Communications and Advocacy, the UN Volunteer will be expected to:

  • Support the implementation of the UNDP Iraq communications and advocacy strategy, working closely with UNDP Iraq Communications Cell members
  • Lead UNDP Iraq’s digital communications strategy, keeping abreast of digital communications trends and innovations and apply to UNDP Iraq digital ecosystem where appropriate
  • Identify, develop, and publish high-quality, innovative, and compelling digital communications products including web articles, blogs, opinion pieces, infographics, social media content and post-event reports, in line with UNDP corporate branding and donor requirements.
  • Lead the maintenance and management of UNDP Website, include the rollout of new global CMS (Drupal)
  • Analyse, monitor and report on the performance of UNDP Communications channels, using in-built and external analytics software such as Google Analytics, and proposing actions to boost online presence and reachability.
  • Support in developing communication reports
  • Undertake other tasks as directed by Team Leader, Communications and Advocacy

Finally, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Experience remark

A minimum 3 years of experience in digital communications, preferably for an international organistion. Experience in analytics and data analysis and reporting is a must

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details

Knowledge of Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Knowledge of CMS platforms (Drupal) and Google Analytics. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) Shorthand and Meltwater.
