The World Health Organization (WHO) was established on 7 April 1948, a date now commemorated annually as World Health Day. Today, WHO works in more than 150 countries to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve vulnerable populations, with the goal of advancing universal health coverage, strengthening protection from health emergencies, and improving health and well-being for all.
WHO Angola is one of the most visible United Nations agencies in the country, reflecting its strong technical collaboration with the Government of Angola, active engagement with communities and partners, and dynamic communication and visibility efforts. The Organization supports the Government across a wide range of public health priorities, including primary health care, immunization, disease prevention and control, health systems strengthening, outbreak response, emergency preparedness, and humanitarian response.
In this context, digital communication plays a critical role in promoting accurate public health information, increasing public awareness, supporting emergency communication efforts, and strengthening the visibility of WHO’s work and partnerships. WHO Angola also works closely with a range of development partners, including the European Investment Bank, the Government of Japan, and other international and national stakeholders, making strong donor visibility and strategic communication essential.
The UNV Digital Communication Assistant will support WHO Angola in strengthening its digital presence, public engagement, multimedia storytelling, and visibility efforts across communication platforms. The role will contribute to ensuring effective communication of WHO and Government-led health initiatives, promoting partner visibility, and supporting timely and impactful communication during campaigns, missions, public health events, and emergency responses.
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the External Relations Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Digital Communication Assistant will:
Manage and regularly update the World Health Organization (WHO) social media platforms
Develop and implement digital content calendars aligned with WHO priorities and campaigns
Produce digital communication materials, including graphics, social media cards, photo stories, infographics, and other multimedia products
Produce and edit short videos, interviews, and audiovisual materials for health campaigns and strategic communication
Develop innovative and creative digital communication ideas and storytelling approaches to increase audience engagement and visibility
Create engaging multimedia content to strengthen WHO visibility, reach, and public interaction across digital platforms
Support the development of press releases, web stories, impact stories, presentations, and other communication products
Monitor digital engagement, media trends, misinformation, and audience interaction across platforms to support evidence-based communication
Support the communication and visibility of WHO events, campaigns, and public health observances
Manage and maintain the WHO country office website and undertake other communication-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Strengthen WHO's digital visibility, audience reach, and engagement across social media and online platforms
Increase production and dissemination of timely, accurate, and engaging digital communication content on priority public health issues and WHO programmes
Improve public access to quality health information through innovative multimedia storytelling, audiovisual products, and digital campaigns
Enhance creativity and innovation in WHO digital communication approaches, including the development of new content formats and audience engagement strategies
Strengthen coordination and collaboration with partners, media, UN agencies, and stakeholders to promote public health priorities and WHO visibility

Strong skills in graphic design, visual content production, and video editing for digital platforms and campaigns.
Demonstrated creativity and innovation in developing engaging digital communication and multimedia content.
Extensive experience in managing social media platforms, digital engagement, and online visibility strategies.
Experience supporting event communication, visibility, and coordination, including coverage of meetings, campaigns, and public events.
Previous experience working within the United Nations (UN) system, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or international and multicultural environments is highly desirable.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, including missions, events, campaigns, and emergency-related activities, with strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills, and willingness to learn and adapt to feedback.
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
