Overview

Coordinate the migration of IOM's websites and enhance digital communications.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Information, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations or a related field.
  • Fluent in English (Mandatory), Fluent in French (Optional).
  • Background in journalism, communications and/or advocacy.
  • Experience in project management for websites and managing a CMS (experience using Drupal will be an asset).
  • Experience producing and editing content for online audiences ideally for media outlets, international brands, NGOs, or other international institutions.

Contract

This is a UNV International Expert contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Expert contracts.

Description of task

Under the guidance and supervision of the Online Communications Unit Manager, the UN Volunteer will carry out the following tasks:

1. Coordinate the migration of 125 IOM’s websites (Missions, Regional Offices and Project websites) to a new Drupal 8 template (already created and functional) – and its new information architecture – in a timely manner and in conformity with IOM editorial standards and guidelines for websites, collaborating with IOM’s offices around the world, under the supervision of the Head of the Online Communications Unit (Media and Communications Department). This includes the coordination of a surge team specifically dedicated to this exercise.

2. Spearhead the implementation of the websites’ migration workplan.

3. Coordinate a team of web editors dedicated to the migration exercise, provide leadership to ensure the development of a cohesive and high performing team.

4. Engage and build productive relationships with relevant websites focal points (working in Missions, Regional Offices or under specific Projects) to ensure the timely migration of their websites, in conformity with IOM standards and guidelines for websites.

5. Provide technical guidance to the team of web editors and to web focal points as appropriate; transfer knowledge and skills in digital communications, web content, web user experience and navigation, and oversee the training provided by the surge team to the web focal point editors.

6. Provide guidance on overall editorial direction and minimum needed re-conceptualisation/adaptation of websites in line with the new platform/template; ensuring a well-designed, well-structured, easy to navigate and high quality written and visual content (based on the existing content and implementing the minimum required adaptations for the new information architecture/template) that conforms to web usability and content management standards.

7. Ensure content reflect IOM's communications priorities and that text is accessible, informative and interesting and paying close attention to narrative flow, messaging, accuracy, tone and house style.

8. Ensure high-quality standards for each website migrated; implementing effective quality control and providing guidance and constructive feedback as appropriate.

9. Other possible needed tasks related to the management of content for the IOM global website.

Educational additional comments

  • Degree in Communications, Public Information, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations or a related field.

Experience remark

• Background in journalism, communications and/or advocacy.
