How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the internship is to support the Regional Office’s (RO) Digital Communication Strategy as way to strengthen its goals around key issues affecting children. Therefore, the creation of engaging content needs to be integrated into an overall strategy geared not just towards increasing traffic but also increasing mobilization and advocacy.

The Digital Communication Intern will work within the UNICEF Communication section in the Regional Office and will have the opportunity to contribute to make a large impact on the design, architecture, and implementation of all the regional digital and social media platforms.

The main deliverables are:

For the Regional Office

  • Develop and produce engaging content (copy, photos and graphic design, video, GIF´s, etc.) for RO website and social media platforms managed by RO in recent months and update them regularly.
  • Adapt to social media new contents and information produced by NYHQ, to be shared with Country Offices in the region in English and in Spanish.
  • Provide general assistance to the Communication Section in the Regional Office with special focus on:
    • Developing social media packs combining messages, graphic design and new techniques to generate engaging content.
    • Producing new and engaging multimedia materials for social media.
    • Monitor and report on a monthly basis the performance of all digital communication platforms, according to the KPIs defined by digital communication strategy.

In support of Country Offices

  • Contribute to the Regional Digital Communication Strategy, providing technical assistance and capacity building to Country Offices in their own digital and social media strategies as needed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree within the past two years in Marketing, Publicity, Communication or Digital Journalism, or related fields integrating social-media platforms, APIs (CMS, Facebook, Twitter, Google, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor or professor.
  • Proven experience in communications skills and multimedia (writing, editing, video production, photography) is required.
  • Fluency in Spanish and proficiency in English is compulsory.
  • Proven experience in using graphic design packages like adobe Photoshop, adobe Illustrator, InDesign is an asset.
  • Proven experience in developing content for a young audience on Social Media will be an asset.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother or sister) working in any UNICEF office.
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.

Benefits to Intern:

• The intern will acquire direct practical experience in Communications, Digital Strategy, Social Media, and UNICEF's work in the region.

• Develop writing and editing skills through developing key social media resources.

•Gaining experience working and supporting the Communication´s teams of the Regional Office and Countries Offices from the region.

The duration of the internship will be of 6 months (full time).

The intern will work remote first and eventually in person after. The selected intern will work at UNICEF´s Regional Office established in Panama City when in person.

STIPEND:

In accordance to UNICEF´s guidelines, interns will be paid a stipend of USD 995.40 per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

INSURANCE:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship with the Communications Section.
