Ensure delivery of UNEP’s Digital Transformation programme and initiatives.
You have:
- Master’s degree in communications, international relations, political science, commerce or related field or first-level university degree with qualifying experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in marketing/project management role in the entertainment/communications/technology/digitalization sector, ideally in gaming.
- Fluency in oral and written English required; working knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
- Able to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to think creatively about how to evolve pre-existing programmes to have maximum impact.
Result of Service To ensure the delivery of UNEP’s Digital Transformation programme and initiatives such as the Playing for the Planet Alliance are met. Work on the following objectives:
1) To facilitate the work of the Playing for the Planet Alliance to deliver on the work around the 2023 edition of the Green Game Jam with others in the team and provide communications outputs to the initiative, as required. 2) To act as the Ecosystem Division focal point for Digital Transformation delivery working with colleagues to coordinate the delivery this division’s contributions to the programme outcomes across the division.

Duties and Responsibilities The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
The Education, Youth and Advocacy Unit oversees the education outreach and a series of youth projects for UN Environment at its headquarters in Nairobi. This includes everything from engaging Universities that are part of the Youth and Education Alliance to engaging with partners in the gaming industry and youth movements.
The consultant will report to the Chief, Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit, Sam Barratt and have a tasking relationship with key members of Playing for the Planet team.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 1. Together with the team, the Consultant will work with the video gaming industry through the Playing for the Planet Alliance to meet the following objectives: - Green Game Jam: With other others, work to design the outreach / collaboration plans for the Green Game Jam with the 40+ partners in advance of the jam launch for 2023. This would be a priority for the first period of 2023 and include: o Outreach to participants; o Providing key updates to partners, as needed; o Updating the materials on the website; o Working to ensure that the project meets its objectives. - Community management: With colleagues, work on the Playing for the Planet member outreach through the Alliance secretariat.
2. Act as the Ecosystem Division focal point for Digital Transformation delivery working with colleagues to coordinate the delivery this division’s contributions to the programme outcomes across the division. This would include: - Coordination: Map the Digital Transformation efforts across Ecosystem Division and work with colleagues to share best practice, identify new ways of delivering the programme in partnership with other key colleagues. - Carbon Call: Develop the collaboration with Carbon Call with colleagues in the Division so UNEP is adding value to this initiative as it moves forward, with a specific focus on gaming companies.
Qualifications/special skills Master’s degree in communications, international relations, political science, commerce or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Minimum of 4 years of experience of working in marketing / project management role in the entertainment/communications/ technology/digitalization sector, ideally in the area of gaming with insight as to how to work with such entities around the tasks described in the job. Other skills required - Communications: Able to bring a diverse group of individuals and partners together act on a common agenda, web design capability as well as able to write high quality texts and proposals as required. Excellent oral and written skills – strong writer of stories and proposals, excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
