BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. The core policies and strategies that govern WFP activities are: save lives in emergency situations; improve the nutrition and quality of life of the most vulnerable people; and to help build assets and promote the self-reliance of poor people and communities, particularly through conditional food for work and training programmes. The challenges of working in difficult conditions to bring much needed food and support to our recipients while inherently rewarding, can place a great deal of pressure and stress on WFP staff. As a part of a multidisciplinary team under the Staff Wellness Division, the Staff Counselling Unit is committed to the promotion of psychological and physical health in the broadest sense so staff can continue to function at high levels in order to meet the mandate of the organization. We do this by identifying and addressing psychological risk factors in the workplace, and through the provision of counselling services to staff members and their dependents. Results form the 2022 Health Survey reveal high rates of metabolic disorder globally but also in HQ. As such, the Wellness Division has created a 12 Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Program using a best practice model to run from March to June 2023. We require a qualified nutritionist/dietician to become a member of a multidisciplinary team that includes nursing and staff counselling.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The nutritionist will report to the nurse in HQ leading the project. We are looking for a passionate, highly organised and open-minded individual. Flexibility, multitasking and proactiveness are necessary for this role. The nutritionist/dietician will:

- Consult with each of the 20 participants at the start of the program to provide education about diet and nutrition as it relates to mitigating risk for CVD

- Develop a 10 to 12-week nutrition plan in consultation with each participant

- Work with the allied professionals on the team to coordinate the program

- Follow up with each participant on a monthly basis to review progress

- Meet with each participant at the end of the 10 - 12-week program to review results

- Participate in the evaluation of the program

Maintain the highest ethical standards related to confidentiality, consistent with the Wellness Code of Ethics

- Other as required.

DELIVERABLES QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Bachelor degree or higher in health sciences and hold a valid practicing license as a dietician or nutritionist.

Experience: 5 years of experience and based in Rome

Knowledge and Skills: Must be an excellent team player and value working with a multidisciplinary and culturally diverse team. Very good working knowledge of technology tools such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) Ability to operate effectively across organizational boundaries and establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Languages:

Proficiency in writing and verbal communication in English is required.
