ITS Vice Presidency Context:

Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) enables the WBG to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in a sustainable way by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 150 locations.

Our vision is to transform how the Bank Group accomplishes its mission through information and technology. In this fast-paced, ever-changing world, the formulation and implementation of the ITS strategy is an ongoing, iterative process of learning and adaptation developed through extensive consultations with business partners throughout the World Bank Group.

ITS shapes its strategy in response to changing business priorities and leverages new technologies to achieve three high-level business outcomes: business enablement, by providing Bank Group units with innovative digital tools and technologies to transform how they deliver value for their clients; empowerment & effectiveness, by ensuring that all Bank Group staff are connected, able to find information, and productive to accelerate the delivery of development solutions globally; and resilience, by equipping the Bank Group to provide risk-based cybersecurity and robust data protection for a global network and a growing cloud platform.

Implementation of the strategy is guided by three core principles. The first is to deliver solutions for business partners that are customer-centric, innovative, and transformative. The second is to provide the Bank Group with value for money with selective and standard technologies. The third principle is to excel at the basics by providing a high performing, robust, and resilient IT environment for the organization.

The ITS Enterprise Services unit, provides a wide range of technical services: data centers, system administration, database, middleware, cloud, enterprise monitoring, and identity and access management.

The DevOps Engineer position is within ITSSM team which builds and operates a large, hybrid IT infrastructure, with thousands of servers, hundreds of databases, and petabytes of data, spanning colocation sites, AWS, and Azure Clouds. It utilizes modern, infrastructure as code tools like Chef, Terraform, Rundeck, Azure DevOps and Splunk.

ITSSM is growing its DevOps and Automation capabilities to function as a Center of Excellence for the World Bank Group. You will be working in an innovative, creative, and agile environment to develop new products and automate existing ones (infrastructure, processes, and systems). Additionally, you will help us improve our customer experience.

Role

DevOps Automation engineer working as part of the IT Infrastructure team

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility of this position is listed below:

•Manage the product lifecycle of automation tools to assure operational availability; design and specify changes for implementation.

•Responsible for implementing and managing the DevOps approach within the ITSSM organization.

•Combine software development and IT operations to create a more streamlined and efficient development process.

•Build new elements to meet requested needs or needs that are identified, and in consideration of the current and future architecture.

•Add new elements to a blueprint, document them effectively, and direct the testing and implementation of changes.

•When provided with an objective to improve performance in IT operations, develop and implement action plans needed to effect the change.

•Create technical blueprints, translating logical architecture into physical specifications. Direct and oversee the implementation effort.

•Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.

•Assess demand for their service or technology area and develop plans to meet future capacity needs and make recommendations to the manager.

Specific Activities Include:

•Maintain Center of Excellence (CoE) for various Automation tools for infrastructure and platforms

•Define best practices for Automation Platforms (Chef, Rundeck, Terraform etc.).

•Work as part of a team to design and implement scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant platforms in the Cloud and on-prem.

•Write code for automation of various aspects of infrastructure management.

•Develop, socialize standards for Automation tools. Act as either subject matter experts or provide convening platforms to review architecture, resolve issues and establish roadmap.

•Troubleshoot technical issues.

•Identify opportunities for innovation.

•Develop technical documentation and operational procedures.

•Enhance monitoring capabilities, logging systems and define metrics.

•Work with minimal supervision on multiple projects at a time.

•Master's degree with 5 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Hands-on experience in Chef, Terraform, Rundeck or other IaC.

•Hands-on experience in Azure DevOps

•Hands-on experience in Linux/Windows System Administration.

•Experience in cloud environments (preferably Azure/AWS).

•Experience developing code in AT LEAST ONE high-level programing language (e.g., Python, Go, Ruby).

•Experience in automating/testing via scripting/programing (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).

•Works with minimal supervision on multiple projects at a time.

•Able to research, grasp high level concepts to create technical solutions to meet business needs.

•Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to define problems and analyze the root cause.

•Initiative-taker with a record in learning modern technologies.

Note: “The selected person will be hired on three years renewable Term contract which can be extended based on business needs and performance."
