Who we are looking for: We are seeking to identify an experienced DevOps Cloud Specialist.
What we offer: An International Consultancy Contract of up to 11 months from start date will be offered to the selected candidate.
Workplace: You will be expected to work from remote with working hours GMT+1. You will interact with a diversified team spread in different locations.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. WFP Technology Division (TEC, formerly known as the IT Division) is the digital business engine of the World Food Programme, providing the business with multi-pronged and resilient technical capabilities able to respond with the agility required in humanitarian operations.
Reporting to the Lead of Platform Support of the Infrastructure Services Team in the Service
Management Branch (TECM), the DevOps Cloud Specialist will operate complex and modern application hosting platforms in the Cloud and hybrid (on-premises).
The position will implement and manage application hosting solutions that are fully compliant with WFP standards and IT Security Principles, providing direction and guideline to IT Solutions Architects,
Application Developers and Project Managers throughout the entire lifecycle and by incorporating
automated Azure DevOps Pipelines to facilitate the delivery of these IT solutions.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, Analyse, capture and document the Amazon Web Infrastructure (AWS) infrastructure to fit the needs of the IT solutions, including security, performance, availability, scalability, resiliency, data redundancy, data latency and such;
- Design, configure, test, and document on Azure DevOps the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for the IT solutions;
- Elaborate principles, guidance, guidelines, and best practices for Cloud infrastructure of IT solutions, Infrastructure as Code, and Azure Pipelines;
- Provide advice and present IT solutions to the Architectural Board for endorsement as corporate solutions;
- Define quality assurance metrics for the cloud and DevOps infrastructure;
- In case of Product Teams who have a DevOps engineer, provide advice and guidance for the infrastructure and pipelines to be compliant with WFP standards, and validate the implementations;
- Manage technical tickets in the Product Backlogs to ensure the high quality of the IT solution infrastructure and negotiate their prioritization with the Product Manager and IT Solution Architect;
- Stay up to date with cloud and DevOps infrastructure technology and best practices;
- Manage hosting costs and provide expert advice in order to reduce IT total cost of ownership, both on the Cloud and hybrid;
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education:
University degree in Computer Science (or related fields). AWS Certifications: SysOps Administrator, DevOps Engineer or Solution Architect.
Experience:
At least six years’ experience with DevOps cloud infrastructure, and a proven
track record of planning, leading, and executing related activities.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Experience working with software engineering best practices such as code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, deployment, release, and change management;
- Experience systems administration in Cloud or hybrid environment including scripting (shell script, power shell, python, etc); and
- Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines management is desirable;
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
- In-depth knowledge and proficiency with:
- Designing/architecting AWS infrastructure for IT solutions;
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices and technologies: Terraform and related (e.g.: TerraGrunt), Cloud formation and related (e.g.: CDK);
- Automating production environments through as Azure DevOps, and setting up automated CI/CD pipelines;
- Configuring, deploying, and securing AWS computing platforms;
- Optimisation of AWS infrastructure for improving software solution performance, including web server optimisation, database optimisation, in memory caching solutions, load balancer configuration, clustering and HA solutions, content delivery networks (CDNs), auto-scalability during periods of high server load, etc.
- Monitoring infrastructure and proactively identifying potential issues before they become performance problems.
Cybersecurity matters, such as network design, vulnerability assessment/penetration testing, firewalls, intrusion detection, mobile security, application security.
Language:
Fluency in oral and written English is required. An intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
