Under the direction of the Development Manager, the Development and Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for and supports the day-to-day operations of the in-kind donations resource development, community engagement, and communications efforts, helping the development team raise the profile of the IRC in San Diego as the agency of choice for community donors, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers. The Development and Community Relations Coordinator will primarily be responsible for the in-kind resource development to gather, procure, and track much-needed in-kind resources for families supported by the IRC. Additionally, the coordinator will support efforts to engage supporters through planning and implementing strategic events, supporting broader development initiatives, and Donor support. The Coordinator plays a crucial role in engaging the community to support the work of the IRC in substantial and beneficial ways.

Major Responsibilities

In-kind Resource Development (55%*)

- Maintain, procure, and strengthen cooperative relationships with in-kind donors, including identifying new and stewarding existing corporate donors, churches, civic groups, local businesses, established community partners, and individual groups. - Maintain, track, and evaluate ongoing in-kind needs across all IRC programs to source material support and help strengthen the systems by which in-kind goods continue to be procured in alignment with the Operation Units capacity. - Respond swiftly to inquiries and maintain consistent correspondence with in-kind donors, including over the phone, via email, and in person. Support programs with swift client identification for high-need in-kind items as they arise. - Lead the coordination of large-scale in-kind donation drives by community supporters in collaboration with the Operations Unit. - In collaboration with the Operations Unit, ensure timely and organized tracking of in-kind donation receipts for supporters and distribution records for all items provided to IRC. - Work closely with IRC staff and external partners to improve San Diego’s CIK procurement systems. - Supervise volunteers/volunteer groups to accomplish in-kind donation logistics.

Events (20%*)

- Organize, plan, and execute coordinating IRC-organized fundraisers, events, and community engagements, working closely with the Development Manager, development team, and program staff. - In collaboration with the Development Manager, develop, update, and adhere to event budgets to meet assigned fundraising goals. - Participate in research, outreach, and cultivation activities to solicit sponsorships for IRC flagship events, working to upgrade existing sponsors and form new sponsor relationships. - Collaborate closely with third-party vendors, IRC staff, community partners, volunteers, and supporters to coordinate details of events, secure in-kind or monetary donations, and outreach to increase participation.

Community Engagement (5%*)

- In collaboration with the Senior Volunteer Specialist, attend and coordinate speaking efforts and initiatives, including staff engagement in speaker requests, to cultivate and educate potential donors, volunteers, and other supporters. - Coordinate digital fundraising campaigns and strategies, including community fundraisers and annual appeal content— using IRC platforms with close involvement of the Development Manager, Executive Director, and program staff. - Track all supporter community engagement efforts via centralized tracking mechanisms to document efforts over time, including managing the development inventory of promotional items.

Communications and Media (10%*)

- Oversee the hiring, recruitment, work plan, and professional development of a seasonal Development Intern to design and drive an annual communications plan. - Recruit and supervise volunteers and contract workers supporting communications, graphic design, photography, and videography to improve local brand presence. - Coordinate the timely production and distribution of strategic communications materials, including but not limited to managing the general email account and Facebook and Twitter accounts for the San Diego office. - In collaboration with the Grants Specialist, work cross-departmentally to build a culture of storytelling, curating staff, program, and client stories and crafting compelling, well-designed content to support the fundraising, marketing, programmatic, and advocacy goals. - Maintain communication, media policies, and media contact list in consultation with relevant focal points at HQ and close consultation with local management—ensuring that all staff know these policies and procedures. - Prepare IRC spokespersons and participating clients ahead of media opportunities.

Development (10%*)

- Maintain accurate, up-to-date electronic and paper records on in-kind and monetary contributions, complete Donor acknowledgments, and maintain correct Donor records in Salesforce. - Support the Development Manager with broader supporter engagement strategies, especially those focused on partnership building and corporate engagement opportunities. - Participate in development team meetings and communities of practice and lead bi-weekly staff meetings. - Remain responsive to all community inquiries, including over the phone, via text messages, email, and in person. - Ensure proper and prompt recognition and acknowledgments for all donations. - Follow all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency. - Other related fundraising and event duties as assigned.

Indirect Reporting: Executive Director, Operations Supervisor, senior leadership team, program managers

Other internal and/or external contacts: Development team, program staff, people served by the IRC, HQ focal points, and community supporters

Job Requirements:

Education

- Undergraduate degree or combination of related education and experience may be substituted; - Certification or continuing education in project management, grant writing, proposal development, and - Fundraising is a plus

Work Experience

- 3+ years of related professional work experience ideal. Demonstrated experience in non-profit event planning and execution and a sales and marketing position; - At least two years of supervisory experience.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies

- Demonstrated experience in creating and posting content through online media channels (e.g., online newsletter, Facebook, Twitter); - Experience using Donor CRM systems, especially Salesforce, preferred. - Experience with graphic design (Canva, InDesign, etc.), photography, communications, and/or event planning preferred. - Ability to lift 30+ pounds to navigate everyday logistics of in-kind donations management - Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; - Able to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven, collaborative, and high-needs environments; - Self-motivated and goal-oriented in meeting performance expectations; - Initiative and follow through on system improvement projects; - to Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; - Proficient in spoken and written English; - Valid driver’s license; current insurance and access to a reliable personal vehicle and a willingness to use it in the routine performance of job duties.

Working Environment:

- Standard, professional office environment, including the current hybrid mode of remote work within San Diego County and required in-office days and some 'field' time within the service delivery area to perform the above-outlined responsibilities. Office working environment is subject to change based on organization/business needs. - Requires work at both City Heights and El Cajon offices. - Requires evening work, with a possibility of weekends. - San Diego Office hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5 pm.
