Job Description

TITLE: Communications and Development Intern LOCATION: City Heights & Remote START DATE: May 2023 DURATION: 3 months (15 hours per week)

Please note: this is an unpaid internship BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF Development Intern WORK: This position will provide essential support to the Development team in planning and executing successful external fundraising events, which provide critical funding to support IRC programs. The Development Intern will also provide administrative support around IRC in San Diego’s community engagement and online presence.

RESPONSIBILITIES: · Support the planning and execution of the IRC fundraising events in a virtual format, including strategy around social media, outreach, and ticket sales · Brainstorm and develop strategic outreach plan to target new community partners, university contacts and other groups to support IRC events · Maintain IRC webpages & social media and ensure information is up to date and updated regularly · Assist with content gathering and storytelling projects for web and social media · Help transcribe client interviews and gather content for IRC social media accounts · Support Development Team in obtaining in-kind donations for refugee and asylum-seeking clients; help with inventory and distribution as needed · Attend weekly meetings with Development Team and bi-weekly staff meetings · Provide administrative support to Development Team by assisting with data entry, production of acknowledgments and other cultivation activities · Help the Development Team engage and interact with community partners.
