Job Description

You will work in the team in charge of the R&D activities to design magnets using high temperature superconductors. You will be involved in the design of superconducting coils and related surrounding structures. For this, it is foreseen to use both analytical approaches and finite element computations. The measurements and characterization of cable mechanical properties are a second important chapter of the role. It will be necessary to conceive testing devices, supervise their construction, carry out the measurements and finally analyze the results.

You will also help with the procurement of components and tools to assembly the support structures of prototype coils. The working time will be approximately 50% on computations and 50% on practical construction supervision and laboratory activities. A good knowledge of a finite element code and Python programming language are an advantage.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
