Design great digital products at scale, utilizing design systems.

You have:

  • Master’s degree with 5 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience in Graphic/User Experience Design, Communications, Media Studies, Anthropology, Library Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience with UX design and design systems.
  • Strong portfolio of past work, in the form of deliverables and/or case studies.
  • Demonstrated experience with design systems, including building and maintaining libraries, componentry, and processes.
  • Ability to convey design rationale effectively and articulately to stakeholders, management, and development teams.
  • Demonstrated experience creating information architectures and user flows, in the form of wireframes or other documentation.
  • Strong project management skills, particularly in managing multiple projects and deliverables as well as experience managing deliverables for a team.
  • Experience in Agile methodology and how to integrate design successfully into the Agile process.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and a keen sense of priorities.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, international environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills in operating collaboratively across organizational boundaries.

Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) enables the WBG to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in a sustainable way by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 150 locations. Our vision is to transform how the Bank Group accomplishes its mission through information and technology. In this fast-paced, ever-changing world, the formulation and implementation of the ITS strategy is an ongoing, iterative process of learning and adaptation developed through extensive consultations with business partners throughout the World Bank Group.

ITS shapes its strategy in response to changing business priorities and leverages new technologies to achieve three high-level business outcomes: business enablement, by providing Bank Group units with innovative digital tools and technologies to transform how they deliver value for their clients; empowerment & effectiveness, by ensuring that all Bank Group staff are connected, able to find information, and productive to accelerate the delivery of development solutions globally; and resilience, by equipping the Bank Group to provide risk-based cybersecurity and robust data protection for a global network and a growing cloud platform.

Our team in ITSOC handles Design Services for the department’s products, following the principles of user-centered design to deliver high-quality, intuitive products to our clients. We are a global team based at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C., in Sofia, Bulgaria, and in Chennai, India.

Our team is growing and has a need for a Design System Designer who has deep expertise in design systems to help us to design great digital products at scale. Specifically, we are looking for someone who can help to elevate the quality of our team’s overall design output by analyzing industry trends and finding ways to apply these to our existing design system and standards. The successful candidate will have a background in enterprise product design strategy, as well as creating and maintaining design systems at scale.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The primary responsibilities of the Designer are the following:

•Analyze industry trends to bring new and fresh ideas that will elevate the quality of our designs, and find concrete ways to apply these ideas to our design system and standards.

•Contribute to creating and maintaining components, libraries, and processes for our existing enterprise design system.

•Propose new and better ways of handling our design system tooling and processes.

•Meet with designers, product owners, and developers to understand their current experiences with the design system in order to address any gaps.

•Contribute to the standardization of new components, templates, and user experiences across products.

•Contribute to the onboarding of new designers to the design system.

•Provide guidance and feedback to other designers in the team, helping to grow and scale the quality of our overall design output.

•Use an evidence-based approach to deliver user experience and design options.

•Be familiar with, and stay current on, design best practices and standards.
