Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. This position is located in the Geneva Environment Network Secretariat (GEN), Europe Office, United Nations Environment Programme. The GEN is a cooperative partnership of over 75 environment and sustainable development organizations and secretariats based in the International Environment House and elsewhere in the Geneva area, including United Nations offices and programmes, academic institutions, local authorities, and non-governmental organizations. Established in 1999, GEN organizes and hosts meetings, roundtables, briefings and workshops promoting the dissemination of information and public awareness of environmental issues. In addition, GEN actively promotes increased cooperation and networking among its partners and develops a weekly newsletter highlighting the latest news, resources, events, and job opportunities in the region. The service of a home-based consultant in design and information management is required to contribute to the activities of the GEN Secretariat. The consultant will work one day a week under the direct supervision of the GEN Coordinator, to develop tools in support of the activities agreed at the annual donor meeting, contributing to the effective function of the Geneva Environment Network main communication tool, in support to upcoming global environmental negotiations and other major environmental meetings. More particularly the incumbent will focus on maintaining the tools of the Geneva Environment Network website platform up to date and secure, developing the design, and enhancing the quality of the content to better respond to the needs of the community. The Design and Information Management Consultant will be responsible for: 1) Design, develop and manage information systems, including databases and the network website platform. 2) Undertake analysis of modules within the system, develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may also design and implement small, stand-alone elements and assets as needed. 3) Undertake testing and proving of applications used for data management and archiving. 4) Write and develop programs to interface with existing systems. 5) Ensure data quality 6) Ensure applications are secured and solutions are designed and implemented with best security practices. 7) Work closely with the team to develop the design specifications for the 25th Anniversary Layout, to be implemented and integrated on website. 8) Conduct layout adjustments and troubleshooting based on user feedback.

Qualifications/special skills

University degree in design, or equivalent required. Minimum 5 years of experience in content development, design and management of web platforms, including Wordpress required. Working experience with other UN agencies in developing and maintaining web platforms required.

Languages

Fluency in English and knowledge of French required.
