Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the office of the Secretariat of the Administrative and Budgetary (Fifth) Committee of the General Assembly and the Committee for Programme Coordination (CPC), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The Deputy Secretary reports to the Secretary of the Committee.

Responsibilities Under the overall guidance and direction of the Secretary of the Committee and within delegated authority, the Deputy Secretary will be responsible for the following duties: - Maintains contact with the Chairs of the regional groups regarding nomination of members to the Bureau of CPC; - Reviews, in advance of session all relevant resolutions/decisions with a view to identifying documents required for the ensuing sessions; prepares list of documents in consultation with substantive departments regarding timely preparation of documents in conformity with relevant General Assembly and ECOSOC resolutions; - Prepares the annotated provision agenda of CPC and the annotated agenda for the Fifth Committee; - Prepares draft organization of the work of CPC, ensuring that adequate time is allocated for consideration of items while bearing in mind proper utilization of conference services and maximum efficiency; - Attends meetings of the Bureau to consider, coordinate, plan an integrate all aspects of the organization of work of CPC; - Serves, as may be required, as Secretary at informal consultations at CPC and the Fifth Committee; - Prepares analysis and summaries, as necessary, highlighting issues of importance and follow-up actions; - Maintains close contact with substantive offices and as necessary, ACABQ; - Ensures that the final texts submitted by the coordinators of the informal consultations for adoption are accurate; - Reviews all reports of the Rapporteur to ensure accuracy and timely issuance before adoption; - Prepares briefs/statements for the Chair of CPC for their address to various bodies on the work of the Committee.

Knowledge of documentation of UN or similar international organization as well as of administrative, budgetary, financial and human resources policies and procedures. Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in international relations, business or public administration, management, economics, law, diplomacy law or related field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, law, or diplomacy is required.

Experience in the provision of substantive support to intergovernmental processes and legislative machinery in an international organization is required.

Experience in dealing with procedures, policies and practices of intergovernmental bodies of an international organization is required.

Experience in provision of advice to a presiding officer/Bureau of an intergovernmental body is desirable.

Experience in preparation and coordination of parliamentary documentation is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
