UNICEF HQ Locations are currently undergoing organizational changes; therefore, the exact location of the post has yet to be determined (NY/Geneva). Selected candidates may be required to commence duties remotely until the location is confirmed. If reassigned or relocated to another location****, candidates may be expected to relocate to a new location again during the initial contract or assignment period.

Consistent with its focus on equity, UNICEF promotes the rights of all children in humanitarian settings. UNICEF is the Lead Agency within the humanitarian cluster system for WASH, Nutrition, co-lead for Education, and the lead for the Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR) under the Protection Cluster. As such, UNICEF is accountable for ensuring that efforts of all actors in contexts covered by the cluster system are well coordinated, achieve adequate coverage, and are of the highest possible quality in order to achieve optimum results for children.

In order to meet its Lead Agency responsibilities, UNICEF invests human and financial resources to strengthen and improve the coordination function at global level for each of the Clusters / AoR it leads, as well as in each humanitarian context. In line with UNICEF's commitments to the World Humanitarian Summit and Grand Bargain outcomes, this includes a strong focus on adopting "people-centered approaches" in cluster coordination and performance management processes.

How can you make a difference?

The main purpose of this post is to support the Global Nutrition Cluster / AoR in effectively managing and strengthening frameworks and capacity for country-level Cluster Coordination. This work will ensure field Cluster Coordination functions are conducted in a way that maximizes field results.

Partnerships

  • Develop and strengthen global nutrition cluster partnerships by facilitating GNC Working groups and ad hoc groups to complete the GNC annual work plan, organizing global meetings, liaising with global technical groups and representing the GNC at international meetings and trainings.

Country Support

  • Immediately after a large scale emergency, provide support COs to establish a Nutrition cluster by facilitating advocacy with donors and partners, filling gaps in HR, developing strategies and appeals and provision/liaising of technical assistance, while coordinating with UNICEF and GNC partners to ensure a cohesive response. In addition, oversee GNC project implementation and related fund disbursements and provide support missions as needed.

UNICEF Policy and Procedures

  • Support UNICEF's internal emergency policies and procedures by working together with EMOPS, other cluster leads areas of UNICEF, DHR, Supply another divisions/sections as needed.

Global Communications and Knowledge Management

  • Maintain communication channels via email and websites and facilitate sharing of field achievement and lessons learned, advocacy of gaps and technical updates.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Education: Advanced University degree in one of the following fields: Public Health, Nutrition or other related disciplines. Preferably a combination of management, administration, and relevant technical fields.
  • ****Work Experience:****
    • Eight years of professional work experience in the field of international food and nutrition especially in emergency settings either in multi-lateral, bilateral and NGO agencies.
    • Relevant experience at both UN HQ setting and in the field is highly desirable with particular emphasis on global emergency nutrition issues.
    • Experience working in countries in emergencies and conflict countries required.
    • Experience with Global Clusters desired.
    • Solid experience in report writing, as well as advocacy and communication.
    • Experience with UNICEF and other UN agencies strongly desired.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English, particularly written skills, is mandatory, fluency in a second UN language is considered an asset.
