I slutet av 2019 öppnade RESCUE kontor i Stockholm med målet att skapa engagemang och öka kunskapen i Sverige om humanitära kriser och hur det drabbar människor samt samla in medel från allmänheten. Vi är för närvarande 12 anställda på vårt kontor på Södermalm i Stockholm och tre Face to Face insamlingsteam.

International Rescue Committee Sverige söker vi nu en vikarie för vår Deputy Director, Emerging/Growth Donors som ska vara föräldraledig. I rollen kommer du att leda ett team av tre som ansvarar för institutionella givarrelationer i nya och växande marknader. En viktig del i rollen är att ansvara för långsiktiga strategiska givarengagemang, tillhandahållande av givarintelligens av hög kvalitet och att öka International Rescue Committees profil och inflytande hos bilaterala och multilaterala givare.

Vi söker dig som:

  • har erfarenhet av att arbeta med och bygga strategiska relationer med institutionella givare
  • har kunskap om FN-systemet och om skandinaviska, kanadensiska och schweiziska givare samt deras prioriteringar och finansieringsmekanismer
  • har en utmärkt förmåga att uttrycka dig i tal- och skrift på engelska och är van att hålla i presentationer och förbereda talepunkter för seniora ledare, både internt och externt
  • är en inspirerande ledare som är van att nå resultat genom andra

IRC Background

Awards Management Unit (AMU)

The Awards Management Unit is responsible for building, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with public and institutional donors and position IRC as a partner of choice for delivering programs for our clients. This means working to expand IRC’s portfolio and diversify our relationships, as well as supporting the successful and compliant management and implementation of awards, whether directly or through partners.

The AMU is a bridge between donors and the IRC programme offices: providing expert technical advice, while maintaining portfolio-level visibility to ensure consistency, compliance, and manage risk. This unit ensures that donor compliance policies and procedures are implemented consistently, and supports all staff working across the awards management cycle for all restricted funding from global government and multilateral sources.

Purpose of the Role

The Deputy Director will supervise Senior Advisors responsible for donor relationship management of our newer/growth donors: Scandinavia; UN agencies (UNHCR, OCHA and UNICEF); and the Senior Research Officer (SDC/Canada/ad hoc research). The Deputy Director will support donor engagement efforts, including representation with these donors as needed. The Deputy Director is responsible for ensuring the delivery of multi-year donor engagement strategies, provision of high-quality donor intelligence to inform IRC’s understanding of donor strategies and priorities, and delivery of activities to raise IRC’s profile and influence with these donors.

Scope and Authority

Authority

  • Oversees IRC’s approach to donor relationship management for Scandinavian donors; UN agencies (UNHCR, OCHA and UNICEF); Canada, and SDC.
  • Advises and informs leadership/senior management in AMU, Europe and across the global organisation on donor engagement priorities.
  • Coordinates and represents IRC as appropriate in external meetings with key donors and other key stakeholders.
  • Guides and contributes to the development of strategic donor engagement activities and materials.

  • Responsibility for Resources

  • Manages staff members responsible for donor engagement: Snr Advisor – Scandinavia; Snr Advisor – UN; and Senior Research Officer. The role may be expanded in the future to include other donors.

  • Sets clear objectives with team members and ensures support and supervision against deliverables; carry out annual appraisals and mid-year reviews.
  • Plays an active leadership role in the global IRC network, with a particular emphasis on maintaining effective partnerships and collaboration across European offices.

Key Working Relationships

  • Reports to Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships and works closely with the Deputy Director: EU, France & Germany, and the Strategic Partnerships Team.
  • Close coordination and collaboration with AMU leadership, Senior VPs and VPs, Executive Directors in Europe, and Regional/Country Representatives; and TU Directors.
  • Liaison with senior managers of other departments as required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Development and Delivery of Donor Engagement Strategies (30%)

  • Be responsible for the development and delivery of key donor engagement tools and resources, including multi-year donor engagement strategies.
  • Advise IRC Senior Leadership on current and anticipated changes to the political and institutional environment with key donors to inform priorities, engagement, and decisions.
  • Provide briefings for senior staff in preparation for meetings with donor officials/leadership.
  • Work with relevant IRC senior management to develop and implement strategies to position IRC as a strong partner.
  • Work closely with Awards Management Unit’s BD and PAS teams to target engagement with key donors to ensure shared knowledge and coordinated approaches.

Leadership and Team Management (30%)

  • With the Senior Director, develop business processes, including processes for collaboration and information sharing with other units within IRC.
  • Recruit, line manage and motivates the team, including consultants as needed, to deliver high-quality donor stewardship and engagement with targets.
  • Represent AMU in local management team, as needed.
  • Contributes as a member of AMU Leaders and deputises for Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships as needed.

External Representation (30%)

  • Undertake direct representation with Scandinavian, UN, Canadian and Swiss donors as needed, and support and facilitate other staffs’ donor relationships.
  • Undertake senior level representation, including alongside VPs and SVPs with donors, NGO leaders, etc.
  • Foster, manage and strengthen key relationships with target stakeholders and partners from target countries.
  • Coordinate briefings and pitches for use with specific donor agencies supported by comprehensive understanding of polices and priorities.
  • Represent the IRC at external meetings, events, and forums.

Supporting global AMU initiatives (10%)

  • Play an active role as a member of the AMU Leaders team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Considerable experience of working managing institutional donor relations.
  • Knowledge of Scandinavian, UN, Canadian and Swiss donors, priorities, and financing mechanisms.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, including preparing briefings for senior leaders and representing with external stakeholders and donors.
  • Good analytical skills and first-class attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working with institutional donors such as coordinating and writing proposal documents, managing donor relationships, etc.
  • Experienced in strategic relationship development, positioning with donors and prioritising engagement.
  • Proven experience of working with senior donor/government officials and organizational leadership, including at President/CEO level.
  • Proven analytical skills: the ability to identify key points from complex materials and produce succinct summaries and analysis of trends or significant items.
  • First-hand experience in building and managing institutional/public donor relations and representation to diverse audiences, including at a senior level.
  • Proven ability to work supportively and successfully with virtual teams.
  • First-hand experience in a team management role, developing roles and remits as well as managing staff.

Desirable

  • Experience in developing countries in the context of an NGO or International Organization (UN or major donor or similar).
  • Experience in negotiation of programmatic and financial contractual arrangements with donors and partners.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving integrated advocacy, communications, and fundraising programs to access strategic funding.
  • Working level knowledge of Scandinavian languages (particularly ability to deliver presentations/hold meetings with Swedish-speaking stakeholders).
