Contract

This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

This assignment supports UNFPA's commitment to advancing disability inclusion across its programs, ensuring equitable access to resources, services, and opportunities for persons with disabilities in the Asia and Pacific Region.

As part of the effort, the volunteer will work closely with Asia-Pacific Regional Office technical teams to assess gaps in programming, develop strategies, and foster partnerships to enhance disability inclusion programming.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist, the volunteer will assist and support the disability focal point of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office (APRO) in the following tasks:

  • Mapping disability-inclusive policies, programmes, and best practices in Asia and the Pacific.

  • Analyzing country reports to assess gaps in service delivery and inclusion efforts, focusing on the principles of Leaving No One Behind (LNOB).

  • Liaising with Asia-Pacific Regional Office (APRO) technical advisers on LNOB and disability inclusion programming.

  • Designing awareness-raising initiatives to promote the rights of persons with disabilities.

  • Organizing events, workshops, and consultations with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and other stakeholders.

  • Preparing funding proposals and reports on disability-inclusive initiatives.

Demonstrated interest or experience in:
- Disability, equity and inclusion, Leaving No One Behind (LNOB), or human rights initiatives. - UN’s work and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). - Research, advocacy, or stakeholder engagement is an asset. 

Skills in:
- Proficiency in English is mandatory for this role as it is the primary language used for communication and reporting. - Cross-Cultural Communication – Sensitivity to different cultural perspectives on disability. - Partnership Building – Collaborating with stakeholders to strengthen disability inclusion. - Empathy & Lived Experience Sensitivity – Understanding the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and ensuring meaningful participation.

The living cost in Thailand is relatively low, as compared to many other capitals in Southeast Asia. Housing is widely available in various sizes and at various price points. Private healthcare in Thailand is of excellent standard and there are numerous top hospitals in Bangkok which fall far below countries like the US in terms of price. There are numerous high quality international schools available in Bangkok with English as the language of instruction. Bangkok has different public transportation options including the BTS skytrain and MRT underground, metered taxis, mobile based ride hailing services (Grab, All Thai Taxi, etc.), taxis, buses, and boats.

Visa process: The process to apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa “F” for Thailand typically involves, gathering required documents, competing and submitting the Application, paying the visa fee and waiting for the visa to be issued, typically in 3 to 10 business days. For more detailed information, always refer to the official Thai Embassy or Consulate website in your region. It is advised to apply for the visa 2-3 weeks in advance.
