Competencies

  • Demonstrates integrity by modelling the UN’s values and ethical standards;
  • Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of UNDP;
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;

  • Fulfils all obligations to gender sensitivity and zero tolerance for sexual harassment.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, international development, economics, or a related field is required.
  • A university degree in law and certification in local development would be an added advantage.

Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a deadline driven development-programme implementation, reporting and donor relations environment;
  • A combination of professional training, certification and international experience in local governance and decentralisation;
  • Experience in strategic planning;
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders including government officials, NGOs, academia, media, national and international experts and consultants;
  • Experience in building capacities of local government and local civil society organisations;
  • Strong reporting skills and proven ability to produce quality analytical work;
  • Sound knowledge of local development and peacebuilding principles;
  • Previous experience in external communication;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing external stakeholder relationships (e.g. donor and implementing partner relationships);
  • Experience in peace, human security and gender mainstreaming;EU programme implementation experience is a strong asset;
  • Ability to establish effective working relations in a multicultural team environment;
  • Demonstrated familiarity with UNDP rules and procedures is highly desirable;
  • Previous working experience in Jordan is highly desirable;
  • Openness to change and ability to receive and integrate feedback;
  • Experience in the use of computers applications and software packages (MS Power Business Intelligence, Word, Excel, etc.) as well as web-based management systems.

Language requirements:

  • Fluent in English;
  • Knowledge of Arabic is an asset
