Contract Duration:

The Database Developer will be contracted for an initial period of 12 months. Contract may be extended based on satisfactory performance.

In Lebanon, WFP Lebanon provides humanitarian assistance to 1.4 million vulnerable people a month, in the form of unrestricted assistance in-kind and cash-based transfers. WFP supports as well Lebanese schools with school meals and also supports vulnerable households in protecting and improving their livelihoods through trainings and rehabilitation of local infrastructures. WFP also supports Lebanon’s National Poverty Targeting Programme, and Lebanon’s Emergency Crisis and COVID-19 Response Social Safety Net Project (ESSN).

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Under the overall supervision of the head of Data engineering, the incumbent will be responsible for the below activities:

  • Support the development of database and tools for the data needs for the country office and field offices and adhere to the best practices of database development standards.
  • Follow data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports from the database to the units.
  • Provide guidance to support staff, acting as a point of database reporting and assisting them with analysis and queries.
  • Contribute to the documentation of the current and future database systems.
  • Assist in migrating the data from the current database to the corporate system and vice versa.
  • Based on the information/reports received from the different units and sources, prepare reports to be sent to different units/sub-offices and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design database systems.
  • Contribute to the plan and deliver continuous improvement to data integration solutions, through the application of data management best practices in combination with data technology.
  • Develop and improve ETLs.
  • Apply data sanity check and deduplications on the database to ensure data quality.

Deliverables

  • Effectively contribute to the development and implementation of the new standard model project in Lebanon CO.
  • Ensure all the operational data needs are met and within the agreed timeframes.

Standard Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Secondary School Education. University degree in Design, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Information Technology is a plus.

Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in building and optimizing data pipelines and data sets.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic.

Desired Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation and data structures.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Airflow, etc.
  • Experience in git workflow.
