The Internship Programme is a learning opportunity aimed at attracting young and talented candidates. The programme will provide the successful candidates with the opportunity to put into practice and implement their learned and academic knowledge in a field related to the work of WFP. This will promote better understanding of WFP Kenya mandate and programmes. Similarly, the programme will provide WFP with qualified individuals specializing in relevant fields in line with WFP’s Strategic Objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

WFP’s activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, safety nets, nutrition, and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers. You will be part of an efficient and dynamic team that effectively support in the implementation of WFP’s country strategic plan for Kenya.

JOB PURPOSE

This internship will be based in Mombasa sub office working closely with the warehouse operations team.

The intern will be trained on reporting e.g., dashboard and well as engagement in innovative ways and technology savvy of working within the UN mandate.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under direct supervision of the Logistics Officer or delegated authority, the intern will be trained on:

  • DOTS: Working with the Mombasa units (Warehouse, shipping) on innovative reporting on DOTS
  • Creating a live dashboard e.g., one that pulls data from LESS and other platforms.
  • Space utilization engagements e.g., bagged vs cantonised space calculations
  • Suggesting and engaging in innovative ways of working e.g P.I automation
  • Any other tasks as may be allocated

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree In the field of Information management, data analytics, statistics, or equivalent.
  • Graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent studies.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in excel, SQL, Webi reports, SAP.
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods, data visualisation tools e.g., tableau
  • Ability to report and communicate efficiently.

DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS

  • Mombasa unit live dashboard automation
  • Support Mombasa office senior staff in process improvement initiatives especially for warehouse and shipping units
  • Preparation of data sets and sift of primary data identifying trends in data sets.
  • Establishing a warehouse dashboard that automatically pulls data from LESS, reporting all our major numbers e.g stocks & containers movement.
  • Recommendation of a process improvement idea that will lead to monetary savings and/or process efficiency

  • Supply Chain Systems
  • Quality reporting
  • Contracting Operations.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • The internship duration is 8 months, full-time.
