ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their lives. PROJECT BACKGROUND

PlayMatters (2020-2026) is an education initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation. The program reimagines childhood for 800,000+ refugee and host-community children across Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda – children whose education and social development has been affected by displacement and trauma. Building on children’s amazing resilience and a growing evidence base supporting Learning through Play methodologies, PlayMatters cultivates holistic learning for children ages 3-12+. PlayMatters is led by the International Rescue Committee and includes Plan International, War Child Holland, Innovations for Poverty Action, the Behavioral Insights Team in partnership with the LEGO Foundation.

PlayMatters is conducting a study on understanding its scaling pathways and requires a qualified data transcriber to transcribe audio files of interviews and focus group discussions conducted in English following a transcription template.

SCOPE OF WORK

Major Responsibilities:

- Transcribe audio files from the PlayMatters Scaling Study.

Deliverables:

- Up to 50 transcribed interview audio files into Microsoft Word files in English.

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or any related field.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- At least one year of experience working in qualitative data transcription - Experience working in East Africa is a plus.

Language Skills: Strong writing skills (in English) and significant writing experience

Working Environment: The successful candidate will have experience working in cross-cultural contexts and must be able to work remotely without significant technical support from IRC.
