Overview

You have:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in information management, statistics, public administration, political science, international relations, international development or other related social sciences.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to research and analysis, information management, communications, or similar is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft 365 knowledge management technologies (e.g. SharePoint, Forms, Excel, etc.) is required.
  • Experience coordinating high-level meetings and/or retreats is desirable.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required. Knowledge of other official working languages of the UN is an asset.

Result of Service Improve management of agenda items across senior-level fora, cross-pillar engagement, communications of decisions and the systematic tracking of their implementation by: 1) producing regular progress reports on research and analysis; 2) establishing effective data collection, analysis and reporting mechanisms; and launching survey initiatives, as required.

Expected duration This position is to be filled for an initial period of twelve (12) months with a possibility of extension up to 24 months in total.

Duties and Responsibilities BACKGROUND

The Data, Reporting & Monitoring Consultant will support ongoing research, information management, tracking and analysis of agenda items and decisions. The Consultant will support the work of the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit (SPMU) in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG), with a focus on developing and maintaining well-structured reporting systems in SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 tools for managing agenda items across senior-level fora, facilitating cross-pillar engagement, communicating decisions and systematically tracking their implementation. To foster strategic foresight, the Consultant will also assist with research on a broad range of trends shaping the work of the UN System.

SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Planning Officer in SPMU, the incumbent will: - Carry out research on agenda items related to high-level meetings and decision-making, to include collecting, analyzing and presenting information gathered from diverse sources; - Identify trends and update focal points / secretariats of any opportunities for forward planning improvement; - Establish effective data collection, analysis and reporting mechanisms for agenda items in liaison with relevant focal points of senior-level fora; - Conduct survey initiatives; review, analyze and interpret responses, identify problems / issues and prepare preliminary conclusions; - Manage and update databases and tracking tools in SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 applications; - Prepare regular progress reports, monitoring reports, and other relevant documents as needed; - Liaise with relevant focal points to plan, organize and conduct meetings and retreats, including assisting with the preparation and dissemination of briefing notes and concept notes, background papers, and summaries.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent in information management, statistics, public administration, political science, international relations, international development or other related social sciences.

Experience: - A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to research and analysis, information management, communications, or similar is required; - Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft 365 knowledge management technologies (e.g. SharePoint, Forms, Excel, etc.) is required; - Experience coordinating high-level meetings and/or retreats is desirable; - Previous experience with the United Nations and/or other multilateral, bilateral organizations and international civil society development or humanitarian partners is considered an asset.

Language: Fluency in English (written and oral) is required. Knowledge of other official working languages of the UN is an asset.
