Objective of the programme

The programme aims to minimize the health consequences of outbreaks and emergencies by: Helping countries to strengthen capacities to detect, prevent and respond to health emergencies; Mitigating the risk of high threat diseases and infectious hazards; Detecting and assessing emergency health threats and informing public health decision-making; Responding rapidly and effectively to emergencies under a coordinated incident management system; And ensuring WHO's work in emergencies is effectively managed, sustainably financed, adequately staffed and operationally ready to fulfil its mission.

This candidate will assist the programme by providing technical inputs for informed decision making.

Description of duties:

Under the overall supervision of the TL HSE and direct supervision of WHO National Professional Officer – Surveillance and Public Health Informatics (NPO-SPHI), the successful contestant will have the following job responsibilities:

1.Organize COVID-19 surveillance data from different sources and ensure proper database maintenance;

2.Processing necessary data for updating and maintaining COVID-19 Country Profile in WHO (Headquarter and regional office) data platforms;

3.Support in analyzing COVID-19 surveillance data and prepare illustrations for situation analysis;

4.Update and maintain COVID-19 dashboard for the WHO Country Office Bangladesh;

5.Update and maintain the geospatial database using Geographic Information Systems (GIS);

6.Analyse geospatial data for identifying hotspots and spatial variations;

7.Monitor disease trends at the national and subnational level and alert early warning of unusual change;

8.Analyse PoE surveillance data, prepare illustrations and assist in producing weekly situation report on COVID-19 for WHO Country Office Bangladesh;

9.Assist in designing forms and documents for ‘PoE Needs Assessment’ in COVID response, and analyse data for decision making;

10.Perform other activities as assigned by the Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Essential: Four years Bachelor degree in Statistics or biostatistics and epidemiology, public health informatics, geography or in a related field from a recognized institution.

Desirable: Academic or professional training on GIS and data analysis software.

Experience:

Essential:. Minimum 02 years of work experience in the relevant field and at least 01 year of experience in COVID-19 data management.

Desirable:

  • Advance course on Arc-GIS.
  • Understanding of Epi Info/SPSS and Power BI/Data Studio.
  • Working experience with GoB/UN organization.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, and report writing

Computer Literacy:

Duty Station: Dhaka, Bangladesh
