Purpose of the Assignment

Under the overall guidance of the Education in Emergencies Specialist, the purpose of this consultancy is to provide support to the Regional Education Team to have updated information about the # of children affected by the school closure as well as the monitoring of the reopening of school process providing key information management (IM) documents to ensure the quality and timely publication and exchange of information among the RO, COs and partners.

How can you make a difference?

Tasks

• Undertake the development of a school reopening database and monitoring tool

• Undertake monthly quantitative analysis based on the information provided by CO and other primary and secondary data monthly.

• Design and/or update infographics, data visualizations and fact graphs, related to education covid-19 response, for print and/or digital platforms, including material to be part of the Education COVID-19 repository.

• Carry out a monthly update of school database and monitoring tool of school reopening for 37 Countries of the Region.

• Prepare data analysis, comparative tables, and presentations of Education information on time to time basis.

• Systematize the information received by COs monthly and support the EiE team in the development of the monthly update. (English and Spanish).

• Draft short descriptions and develop QR codes of key relevant documents related with Education COVID-19 response.

• Undertake the development of three (3) Country case studies on school reopening.

• Ensure that all visual products are produced in line with UNICEF graphic guidelines.

Expected Results

• School reopening database and monitoring tool developed and updated monthly.

• Map of school reopening status, situation overview and timeline infographics developed and updated monthly.

• Update the database and monitoring of school reopening for 37 Countries monthly.

• Information products related to school reopening (dashboards, infographics, and factsheets produced.

• Document of systematization of school reopening developed.

• 15 relevant documents related to education-covid-19 response count with QR codes and have been disseminated among the Region. description of new UNICEF products developed on school reopening.

• Three Country (3) case studies on school reopening process produced.

Deliverables

  • School reopening database and monitoring tool (English and Spanish).

  • School reopening status for 37 Countries, Timeline graphic and LAC map with status of school reopening and # of children and schools benefited update (English and Spanish).

  • Other visual information products (dashboards, infographics, and factsheets) to support programme planning on EiE on a need a basis (at least 3 products per month). (English and Spanish).

  • One summary document of the information received by COs (English and Spanish).

  • 15 QR codes and description of new Education COVID-19 response (English and Spanish).

  • Development of 3 case studies on school reopening

Supervision: The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist [Emergencies] and in close coordination with the Education Specialist [Migration].

Workplace: This consultancy is remote, home-based. There is no travel involved. The consultant will use his/her own resources and equipment for this consultancy.

Duration: This consultancy is expected to last 8 months, with start date 17 May 2021.

Education

  • University degree in economics, information management or any related field.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in information management (IM), data analysis and data visualization.

  • Familiarity with data sources and use of Adobe, Illustrator or other design or visualization software.

  • Experience with data reports and dashboards visualization.

  • Experience working in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.

  • Experience working remotely, very responsive over email or throughout virtual applications

  • Understanding of UNICEF programme work in the region (desirable)

Languages

Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of French or Portuguese will be considered an asset.

Technical knowledge

  • Familiarity with data sources and use of Adobe, Illustrator or other design or visualization software.

  • Experience with data reports and dashboards visualization.
