This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This assignment is part of UNV’s disability inclusion strategy. UNV seeks to 1) provide opportunities for persons with disabilities to serve as UN Volunteers 2) enable UN partners to expand diversity and inclusion of persons with disabilities in their workforce worldwide 3) build a talent pipeline of qualified professionals with disabilities who can contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at national and global levels, with focus on national capacity. UNDP Nigeria is committed to making the workplace inclusive and diverse hence this assignment is one of such opportunities.

Some projects/programmes under the SPIEG portfolio include: Cash Transfer Programme: providing social protection coverage for the vulnerable though cash transfers. Manage and deploy cash transfers to programme beneficiaries across states in Nigeria. Support programme team with on-going data validation and verification of beneficiaries.

SDG Impact is a flagship UNDP initiative focused on mobilizing private sector capital towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a ‘product-driven’ approach, providing private investors with three tangible solutions such as:  Impact Management: Integrating the way impact is measured into investment strategies.  Impact Intelligence: Providing information and data about SDG-enabling investment opportunities.  Impact Facilitation: Convening SDG investor forums and policy dialogues.

Youth Employability Programme: working with government to provide employment opportunities for the youth.

Research, policy brief and programme reportingthe SPIEG unit supports government and stakeholders in Nigeria to ensure an inclusive and diversified economy, driven by science, technology, innovation, investment in infrastructure, and job creation.

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Strategic Policy and Inclusive Economic Growth Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:  Establish electronic data collection systems, including utilizing online tools  Support the collection of data for entry into the databases through the design of collection procedures and when required undertake field data collection.  Undertake the entry, management, and analysis of the collected data.  Assist the unit in streamlining processes regarding data flow and data quality to improve evidence-based programming.
 Produce reports and infographics based on the data.
 Provide administrative support for effective management of consultations/workshops, dialogues, and meetings under the Joint SDG Fund Project.  Collaborate with stakeholders including Office of Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs (OSSAP-SDGs), UNICEF, ILO and WFP as well as the states to schedule consultations/workshops, dialogues and meetings.  Perform other duties that may arise.

Promoting Accountability and Results-Based Management • Gathering and disseminating information • Maintains databases • Prepares timely inputs to reports

Data collection, research and analysis, knowledge of statistics and statistical tools, reporting, excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel

The assignment will take place in the nation’s capital, Abuja (Hardship Classification C). Abuja is housed by many expatriate and diplomatic communities. Cost of living in Abuja varies but could be termed as high considering the class of people residing in the capital city. Terrorism is the main threat in the Abuja. General crime is also prevalent. UN staff members are advised to stay only in UNDSS assessed hotels and residential areas. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
