Result of Service

• Facilitate Generation Restoration project implementation advancement through the monitoring of pilot projects in cities in LAC, including maintaining bi-monthly check-in meetings with each city/implementing partner, ensure reporting and deliverable deadlines are met as per UNEP contracting/agreements, and liaising between the cities, the Unit’s project manager, UNEP and external experts to deliver technical and project support. • Provide analytical and data support to the Cities Unit’s knowledge products and methodologies, including on neighborhood planning, circular economy, and nature-based solutions. • Provide support for Generation Restoration activities, including knowledge generation and technical assistance on core topics, along with advocacy efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

UNEP Cities Unit is looking for a full-time (level B) consultant to support the comprehensive implementation and advancement of the Generation Restoration project, providing expertise in areas such as neighborhoods, circular economy, and nature-based solutions, while contributing to the implementation of ongoing pilot projects and city engagement in the LAC region. The consultant will be providing assistance for the implementation of Generation Restoration pilot projects, offering data collection, knowledge generation, advisory services, and technical support on core topics. The consultant will report to Sharon Gil, Programme Management Officer, Cities Unit, Climate Change Division.

Qualifications/special skills

A master’s degree in environmental science, urban planning, economics, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience related to sustainable urban development, climate change, bottom-up climate policy or finance Prior experience working within the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization. Proven experience in developing and applying methodologies and guidelines. Strong analytical and research skills, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Languages

Fluency in English and Spanish are required. Working knowledge of German, French and/or Portuguese an advantage.
