The police and anti-corruption agencies need information to prosecute and deter corrupt activity. Citizens can provide a vital role in supplying this information, so why don’t more people come forward to report corruption?

From the fear of retaliation to logistical challenges, lack of awareness in the systems and the protections available, we want to understand the issues which are preventing people from making reports. UNODC has conducted research in the following Pacific Island Countries: Kiribati, Palau, Cook and Vanuatu through three surveys aimed at authorities receiving corruption reports, service users and other stakeholders with experiences of engaging with persons reporting corruption. The aim is for UNODC to use this data to support authorities and organizations to develop and improve effective reporting mechanisms and protections which are gender sensitive and gender responsive in nature. A large group of users in Vanuatu have participated to the survey on a paper format and to enable analysis of the data, the data need to be entered into an online database.
