The UN Youth Volunteer will support the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in both the Colombo and Gampaha districts by contributing to the timely clearance of the existing backlog of data awaiting entry into the e Population Registry System. This role is critical in ensuring that delayed records are accurately captured, updated, and integrated, thereby strengthening the reliability and completeness of population data. The Volunteer will assist in organizing, and sorting large volumes of records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established protocols.
Under the overall supervision of Team Lead Health Systems at WHO Sri Lanka Country Office and the Registrar General at the Registrar General’s Department, the Data Entry Assistant will support data entry to the e-Population Registry System.
Scope of Work • Enter large volumes of birth registration data into the e Population Registry System with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring that all records are complete and compliant with established data-entry protocols. • Coordinate regularly with officers of the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) at both the Head Office and district levels to ensure the timely processing and completion of all pending data-entry tasks.

Colombo and Gampaha are situated in the Western Province of Sri Lanka and Colombo is the commercial capital of the country which adjacent to the administrative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. Bandaranaike International Airport is located 35km from Colombo and is served by the main international airlines. Sri Lanka is a tropical country with moderate temperate and high humidity all throughout the year. Average temperature in Colombo ranges between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. The island experiences two main monsoon seasons, where heavy rainfalls occur, from May to August and October to January. Sri Lankan food is characterized by fragrant spices, all forms of coconut, and rice. Rice and curry are the main dishes. Sri Lankan cuisine tends to be quite spicy. Sri Lanka became a member of the United Nations on 14 December 1955.
