Overview

Provide data-driven workflows and application solutions for ESCWA.

You have:

  • Hands-on experience in developing and maintaining complex data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience in data transformation and harmonization using Python, R, or Scala.
  • Hands-on experience in using visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Ability to provide training and capacity building for non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on experience with version control systems like GIT.
  • Knowledge of SQL is required.
  • Knowledge of geospatial tools such as ArcGIS is required.
  • Develop training materials and user manuals.
  • Ability to organize and perform unit and integrated testing.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The UN Volunteer is expected to provide various data-driven workflows and application solutions using the latest software development tools and technologies, with focus on ESCWA Data Ecosystem.

Under the supervision of the IT Assistant (Data Architect Lead), the UN Volunteer is responsible to perform the following functions:

• Analyze, design, and develop new pipelines and applications per the UN ICT strategy and ESCWA’s needs. • Develop detailed system and other functional specifications and user documentation. • Maintain, upgrade, or enhance existing user systems and integration of many interrelated systems and program elements. • Develop data-driven web-based data visualization and data analytics solutions to support ESCWA initiatives. • Organize and perform unit and integrated testing, designing, and utilizing test bases; and assist users in acceptance testing. • Develop training materials and user manuals. • Train staff on completed systems/applications. • Any other related tasks required or assigned by the supervisor.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut, Lebanon. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly.
