Organizational Setting

The project “Development of sustainable and inclusive local agro-food systems in north-west region of Azerbaijan” aims to establish local agro-food systems that integrate sustainable food production, processing, marketing, distribution and consumption supported by a demand driven agricultural advisory services system in the north-west region of Azerbaijan (Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan).

Technical Focus

In this context, under the overall supervision of the Head of FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan, direct supervision of the Assistant to FAO Representative and the technical supervision of the Lead Technical Officer, the consultant will assist in collection of data relevant for efficient implementation of the project, including agricultural, environmental, economic, market and other statistical data and qualitative information. The consultant will specifically carry out the following functions: Tasks and responsibilities • Coordinate the requirements in data with project colleagues • Draft and follow data collection strategies • Identify information sources and applicable data collection tools • Develop questionnaires • Conduct interviews for qualitative data gathering • Conduct preliminary statistical analysis, including narrative, diagrams, and charts • Assist project consultants in development of project reports • Continuously provide briefs about the meetings, trainings, research findings, recommendations, and achievements to project colleagues and the project’s Visibility & Communication Specialist for further sharing with wider audience

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant field, • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in food technology sector; • Language proficiency in both written and oral English is required. • Nationals of Azerbaijan or resident in the country with a regular work permit.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Data sets on regional agriculture, land use, social, economic, and environmental situation required for preparation of GIAHS proposal and action plan • Data sets required for development of value chain analyses • Detailed information on non-government agricultural advisory service providers • Strong capabilities in formulating complex scopes of work; • Excellent computer skills especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint; • Ability to take on assignments that require travel, mission and/or appointment to field locations;
