Organizational Setting

WHO Country Office Myanmar, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) team is supporting National Health Laboratory (NHL), Department of Medical Service, Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS) in strengthening laboratory capacity for diagnosis and early detection of Vaccine Preventable Diseases.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Data Assistant will work under the general guidance of Technical Officer, EPI Unit, WHO country office Myanmar, and direct supervision of the Director (NHL), Department of Medical Care, Ministry of Health and Sports, she/he will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Collects and compiles data of Influenza Like Illness – Severe Acute Respiratory Infection sentinel surveillance, other communicable disease surveillance and unusual occurrence of diseases or outbreaks (daily, weekly and monthly) like SARS-CoV2, Measles, Polio, Arbovirus, Flaviviruses, Rabies and vaccine preventable diseases like Diphtheria in collaboration with ILI – SARI sentinel sites, States/Regional Special Disease Control Team leaders and Central Epidemiology Unit
  • Assist NHL in data entry, analysis and management of Influenza Like Illness – Severe Acute Respiratory Infection sentinel surveillance, other communicable disease surveillance and unusual occurrence of diseases or outbreaks (daily, weekly and monthly) for reporting.
  • Assist NHL in regular exporting disease surveillance data output in terms of charts, graphs, maps from existing surveillance software (eg., ILI – SARI surveillance software, integrated VPD surveillance software) and sharing these data with WHO and other relevant partners
  • Assist NHL in timely response activities to public health emergency at the time of public health emergencies
  • Operationally report to Program Manager and Virology Section Head of National Health Laboratory, Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health and Sports
  • Performs any other relevant duties as required by WHO and Program Manager and Virology Section Head of virology, National Health Laboratory.

Work Relations and Partnerships

The Data Assistant is expected to work as a member of EPI, Myanmar country office team as per assigned TOR, maintaining professional relation and coordination with other technical team of WCO Myanmar as well as at times with external clients who are participating in events. He/She responds to routine queries, requests and receives data, provides information on status of transactions and exchanges a variety of information that is limited to collaborative programmes. Discussion and communication for effective intra and inter team-works are encouraged.

Impact of functions

The Data Assistant ensures smooth procedures in terms of project implementation, arrangements of meetings and field visits and the proper processing and filing of documentation and records.

Qualifications

Educational background

  • University degree
  • Training on IT and Data Management.

Professional experience

  • Minimum three to five years of experience, preferably in any UN organization, International Organization or Government Offices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well as a team member.

DESIRABLE and knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge on Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Suite (MS Access, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint), Knowledge of SQL, GIS mapping and distributive database is essential.
  • Knowledge of other advanced public health statistical software an advantage.

Language Skills

  • Good knowledge of English and excellent knowledge of Myanmar Language.
