Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Head of RC/HC’s Office, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Contribute to ensure coherent and collective support by the UNCT to the Jordanian Department of Statistics with a view to enhancing capacities to collect, analyse and manage data especially to define that no one is left behind and to monitor implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Contribute to the development of guidance and training in the area of SDG indicators and data collection under the responsibility of the Data Committee.
  • Develop a Prevention Information Platform and ensure monthly data collection around a number of SDG indicators from different sources, enter the data in that platform, and prepare resulting analysis for monthly presentation of trends and patterns to the UNCT.
  • Contribute to the establishment of a knowledge management hub by backstopping the selection, collection, uploading and presentation of online content by different actors on selected thematic areas;
  • Reach out to different UNCT entities to include their practices and published materials onto the knowledge hub platform.
  • Tailor a generic National Tracking Recommendations Database (NRTD) to the needs of the Government of Jordan to strengthen the States’ information management capacity on the implementation of human rights recommendations addressed to Jordan in the Universal Review Process, by Treaty Bodies and by Special Procedures mandate holders.
  • Prepare lessons learned reports from these information management systems to continuously improve them.
  • Build on other databases in the area of data and indicators management.
  • Support and promote innovation in the working methods of the RCO, particularly in the areas of data mining, information and knowledge management to improve data flows, data analysis and efficiency.
  • Support the development of partnerships and cooperative arrangements with institutions and entities that may provide specialised expertise in these areas.
  • Support the work on nationalization of SDG indicators to be led by the Data Committe
  • Prepare and support the production of evidence-based analysis and analytical reports and products that effectively integrate progress attained across different SDG indicators and Socio-economic Framework Response to COVID-19.
  • Identify and interpret trends/patterns using different statistical/structured techniques to detect features related to SDG measurements.
  • Help to prepare webinars and other presentations on knowledge management, the knowledge hub including organization of meetings, note-taking and ensuring follow up of action points.
  • Support UNCT interagency planning processes and other multi-stakeholder coordination forums, as required, including the update of the Common Country Analysis (CCA) and the development of the new UN Cooperation Framework, in close collaboration with the RCO team members.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced university degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics or in a related field of expertise.

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

  • Three years paid working experience is required.
  • Experience in data collection, data analysis and data management is required.
  • Information management skills are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the SDGs and SDG indicators would be an advantage.
  • Experience in interagency/ inter-institutional coordination would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in the Middle East region would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the UN and RC systems would be an advantage.
  • Ability to use graphic designer and information management programmes would be an advantage.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

This assignment is funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, therefore only Russian nationals are eligible to apply.

This is a UN Volunteer assignment and eligible candidates must be 25 years of age or older.

Selection process

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment, via competency-based interviews held via skype or telephone.
