This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

To better inform policy making, the Human Development Unit launched the national Preparedness and Vulnerability data panels. The two dashboards examine the fabric of the socio-economic mechanism of country to respond and pre-empt impacts of shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic; and help policymakers understand how shocks impact individuals, businesses, and societies. The two COVID-19 data panels for Brazil and its 27 federative units show the multidimensional aspect of the country development challenges. 94 indicators compose the data panels: Panel 1, which demonstrates the degree of preparedness of Brazil, as well as the subnational perspectives into the 27 federative units in the face of the COVID 19 challenges; and Panel 2, which profiles the vulnerabilities in various dimensions of human development of Brazil as a whole and into the 27 federative units.

On September/2021 UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF and PAHO/WHO jointly presented the report “COVID-19 and Sustainable Development: assessing the crisis with a vision of recovery”. The report is a call for action and response to the worst systemic crisis in history since the establishment of the United Nations. It highlights indicators to measure socioeconomic recovery, social protection and digital inclusion, so as to place the country on an inclusive and sustainable development course towards the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda.

The HDU established 04(four) working agendas in which Agenda 1 work is focused on the analysis of the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in the Brazilian society. This Agenda is made up of works resulting from 03(three) consultants: 02 (two) Senior Economists and 01 (one) Statistician, regarding the analysis of Data Panels (dashboards)for monitoring the response of the pandemic and its developments.

Under the direct supervision of Human Development Unit (HDU)Coordinator at UNPD-Brazil the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Database Manipulation with extensive knowledge of databases, years of publication, throughout the following research: Atlas do DH no Brasil; PNADC / IBGE; DATA SUS / MS; CENSO Escolar / INEP; Mapa da Violência; and other data from administrative records; • Build with the HDU’s team the hierarchical methodology of the Unit databases - team activity (Word - document) • Migrate Agenda 1 databases, following the proposed hierarchical structure, to Excel • Migrate Agenda 1 databases, following the proposed hierarchical structure, to PDF • Draw hierarchy structure graphics • Build metadata • Generate snapshot and dynamic reports based on hierarchical structure and metadata • Structure a digital library proposal • Provide simple temporal analysis • Participate on meetings related to task subjects

Brasília is a very pleasant city to visit and live in, with many green areas and a good range of services, including school and medical services. Brasilia is a family duty station, Hardship A.

The living conditions in Brasilia are good as well as the access to health services. The accommodation facilities are in general good and the choice is wide. Rent may vary between R$ 1.500,00 e 3.000,00 (reais) for a small flat located in north side of “Plano Piloto”, where UNDP office is located; UNDP share the premises of the UN House in Brasília, located at the Setor de Embaixadas Norte, near the city centre.

The central area, known as “Plano Piloto” is considered safe and there are no reports of threats against UN personnel; nevertheless, some precautions should be taken, since Brasília is a big city and has the same characteristics of such cities in the whole world. Security level in Brazil is moderate (3). All United Nations personnel must scrupulously comply with United Nations Department of Safety and Security procedures and recommendations during their assignment in Brazil. For missions in rural areas or indigenous reservations, special procedures may apply; UN personnel should consult with the local DSS office in advance.

As for the weather, temperatures are always high on average; the rainy season runs from October to April, and the rest of the year Brasilia is usually very dry.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan
