Background Information - Job-specific

The UN Web Buy Plus team (UNWB) is part of UNOPS Shared Services Centre (SSC), which provides policy advice, operational support, and transactional services to UNOPS offices, and is responsible for the administrative support to HQ and Copenhagen-based personnel.

UN Web Buy Plus (www.unwebbuyplus.org) is UNOPS e-commerce solution for the humanitarian and development sector. Through UN Web Buy, partners can access UNOPS procurement services for selected commodities based on Long Term Agreements. The platform went through a complete redesign in 2017 and is constantly being updated with new functionalities. It consists of four separate interfaces for different stakeholders.

The UN Web Plus Buy Plus team is responsible for the UN Web Buy Plus services and for the development and maintenance of the system. The UN Web Buy operations team is based in Copenhagen, from where it provides global procurement services through the UN Web Buy platform.

The successful candidate will be working on improving the UNWB internal and external reporting capacities as a part of her/his internship period.

The main area of responsibility will be to define together with the team lead and other team members the different reports required in UNWB both for internal and external reporting.

The successful candidate will also work on identifying, locating and extracting key data from the UNWB database into Google Cloud Big Query. This work will be done in close collaboration with the UNWB IT team and with the ITG team in UNOPS headquarters.

The third work package will be to design/create dashboards for internal and external use creating and/or updating the existing ones.

S/he must be structured, detail-oriented, and able to organise his/her work independently with support and under supervision of the UN Web Buy Plus team lead.

Depending on the successful candidate’s interests, s/he may be exposed to other support and/or procurement-related services.

At the end of this internship, the successful candidate will have gained:

The internship is expected to start in December for a duration of 6 months.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required.
  • To be eligible for this particular internship with UNOPS, the candidate must be studying towards a university degree, preferably in marketing, logistics and supply chain, business administration, Big data or other relevant disciplines, or have graduated with a relevant university degree in the last three years.

Experience

  • While no prior work experience is required, some experience in data analysis, data visualization, Google environment and programming is highly desirable.

Additional requirements

  • Good analytical skills, especially English writing skills and copy editing, is required.
  • Experience working with Google Suite (particularly Google Sheets, Google cloud Big Query and Data Studio) is highly desired.
  • Good understanding of SQL databases and ability to write simple SQL queries.
  • Willingness to learn/develop Google Suite skills and to work with Google Suite tools is required.
  • Experience with data visualization tools is a strong asset.
  • Basic understanding of procurement is an asset.

Language

  • Fluency and proficiency in English is required.

Contract type, level and duration - Internship

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
