The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is a global centre of expertise established in 1998 to monitor and report on the situation of people who become displaced within their own countries. IDMC curates and analyses data from a wide range of sources, provides insight into the risk, scale, causes and impacts of the phenomenon and supports partners around the world in identifying and implementing solutions to it. The Data and Risk Analysis Hub supports the improvement of storage, processing, analysis, and sharing of IDMC data and is the custodian of IDMC’s data infrastructure, by supporting the development, improvement, and maintenance of the IDMC data. The Hub also leads the data-driven analysis of drivers and future risk of internal displacement.

IDMC is now looking for a professional Data Analysis Coordinator with an ability to make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable and usable to join their team.

What you will do:

Under the supervision of the Data and Risk Analysis Manager, the Data Analysis Coordinator serves as IDMC’s focal point to support other teams, including the Monitoring, the Reporting and the Research team and the Director’s Office, in their analyses, and visualisation of internal displacement data. The Data Analysis Coordinator also supports the Data and Risk Analysis team in ensuring the quality of Data collected by the monitoring team, supporting quality control and the dissemination of the data via multiple channels and formats.

The main roles and responsibilities for this position are:

  • Produce quantitative and qualitative analyses of internal displacement data for use in IDMC’s work and publications.
  • Support the Data and Risk Analysis team in its efforts to encourage the sharing and interoperability of quality internal displacement data between IDMC and partner organisations.
  • facilitate internal displacement information exchange and the promotion of data and information standards.
  • Produce maps and data visualization products to feed into IDMC’s publications and support the development of external interfaces for users to access IDMC’s data.
  • Support and contribute to the curation and quality control of all of the data collected by the monitoring team.
  • Actively contribute to sharing knowledge and expertise with internal and external audiences via outreach activities, trainings, workshops and seminars.

What you will bring:

IDMC is looking for a Data Analysis Coordinator with the ability to make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable and usable. The successful candidate will possess excellent skills in data visualisation (tools and methods) and knowledge of Geographic information system (GIS). We are looking for someone with minimum one year of experience in systems analysis and development, data modelling as well as a good knowledge and understanding of IDMC's data management system and key metrics. You will be a creative thinker with the ability to think outside the box and take initiative to troubleshoot challenges.

In addition, you will have:

  • Master’s degree in geography, Environmental Science, international affairs, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, information science or related field
  • knowledge of basic statistics and BI tools (ex. SSRS, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, ...) is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the organisation at senior technical levels
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French, additional languages an asset
  • Able to cope with extra work under pressure during peak campaign times, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Self-motivated and with a positive attitude.
  • Flexible, innovative and effective in working collaboratively as part of a multicultural team.
  • Proven networking and relationship management skills.
  • Committed and passionate about the issue of internal displacement.
  • Highly professional and collaborative.
  • Aptitude for critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving.
