Duties and Responsibilities

Background: The ESCWA Stories Team was established by ESCWA’s Executive Secretary to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among young persons in the Arab region by using the “ESCWA Stories” comic book as an educational tool. Three volumes of the book have been published in Arabic and English, and ESCWA is currently working on volume IV. Against this background, the services of a Creative Illustrator are needed to work on the illustration of volume IV of the “ESCWA Stories” book (in Arabic). Duties and Responsibilities: The Creative Illustrator is required to: 1- Develop the illustration of volume IV of the ESCWA Stories comic book based on the Arabic script provided by the "ESCWA Stories" team (5 short stories: total 50 pages) 2- Design the cover of the ESCWA Stories IV book. 3- Ensure designs and content reflect consistently and positively the brand image and ESCWA's motto, vision, and mission. 4- Coordinate regularly with the team to ensure a smooth illustrated interpretation of the script. 5- Report progress of projects at major stages of their conception, creation, and execution. 6- Provide all illustrations in vector format (using "Illustrator").

Qualifications/special skills

A Master's degree or equivalent in illustration and comic books design or related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 10 years of experience in illustration and/or comics is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Additional Information

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
