Overview

Develop creative advocacy products for communication and knowledge sharing.

You have:

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Arts, Information Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Mass Communications, Integrated Marketing Communication, or related studies. Additional certifications would be an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of extensive experience in digital and online campaigns, brand identity design, publications design, social media design, video production, and multimedia production.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English is a must.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment and its policy implications.
  • Excellent creative/design skills and creative approach to communications and gender equality will be an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects whilst maintaining high-quality and timeliness.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience writing in the fields of gender and women’s empowerment/economic/human rights-related work will be an asset.

Background

UN Women supports the UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes, and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide. It works globally to make the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls and stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life.

In the Arab States UN Women partners with civil society organizations, young leaders, and youth led-organizations to advance the implementation of international normative frameworks towards the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights. This includes, inter alia, the advancement of the 2030 Agenda, CEDAW, UNSCR 1325, and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, its monitoring and promoting an inclusive, “whole of society” approach throughout these processes. The Beijing+25 review process, the Generation Equality Forum, and the establishment of Action Coalitions are crucial platforms in this regard and are gathering momentum, with public conversations in 2021. The Action Coalitions will deliver concrete and transformative change for women and girls around the world in the coming five years.

In this regard, in March 2020, ROAS supported the establishment of the Arab States CSOs and feminist Network with the purpose of ensuring a gender-responsive COVID-19 Response and Recovery as well as facilitate the participation of women in the region in the global civil society engagement for the advancement of women, regional and global convenings, the Generation Equality Forum, and the Action Coalitions. ROAS also established the Youth Gender Innovation Agora (GIA) in 2018 as a consultative forum and platform for regular dialogue with youth. The GIA is constituted by eminent civil society professionals, young activists, and advocacy and social media influencers to develop innovative gender equality solutions and engage with a broader range of stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UN Women Regional Advocacy & Innovation Specialist/ Civil Society Engagement Coordinator, the Creative Advocacy Consultant will be developing creative advocacy products to support designing and communicating the knowledge products and the branding of the CSOs Network, the youth-led campaigns of GIA team and the design requirements to support regional engagement in global normative fora such as CSW and Generation Equality Forums.

The consultant will conceptualize, design, and layout of high-quality innovative and creative materials (print and online), for web-based communications as infographics, Illustrations, animation, reports, web, and social media-based campaigns, advocacy initiatives, promotional and training materials, animations, and GIFS as assigned;

Deliverables / Expected Results

Timeline

Support the communication and advocacy work of the CSOs Network:

  • Develop a branding package for the CSOs network;
  • Design the illustration package for four policy papers (including the layout of papers and social media package);
  • Design advocacy package for two studies (including the layout of studies and social media package);
  • Design of other relevant products such as announcements of events and statements, invitations, call for actions, and other relevant tasks;
  • Design the visuals of the Youth 2030 Feminist Vision and dissemination package;

Mar-May 2021

Lead the creative art and communication work of the Gender Innovation Agora:

  • Lead the conceptualization and production of campaigns led by the GIA members with creative illustration, branding, animation, and videos;
  • Develop the creative concept and designs of a campaign on Safe Online Spaces;
  • Develop the branding package of the Women in Tech initiative;
  • Develop the branding and advocacy package of the Young Women in Peacebuilding initiative;
  • Design the Gender Innovation Agora booklet and the 2030 vision document;

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of extensive experience in digital and online campaigns, brand identity design, publications design, social media design, video production, and multimedia production;
  • Excellent creative/design skills and creative approach to communications and gender equality will be an asset.
  • Solid experience working on conception, design, packaging, production, and dissemination of communication products to a variety of audiences, and understanding of channels of dissemination will be an asset;
  • Experience in various forms of communications production and marketing, such as publications and campaigning.
  • Previous work experience with UN Women, UN Agencies, /or international development agencies will be an asset;
  • Experience writing in the fields of gender and women’s empowerment/ economic/ human rights-related work will be an asset;

Language Requirements:

Proficiency in Arabic and English is a must.

Evaluation Criteria:

Consultants will be evaluated using a cumulative analysis method taking into consideration the combination of qualifications and financial proposal. The contract will be awarded to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

  • Responsive/compliant/acceptable, and
  • Having received the highest score out of below defined technical and financial criteria.

Technical Evaluation (70%, 70 points) split such as:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in digital and online campaigns, brand identity design, publications design, social media design, video production, and multimedia production: 30 points
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Arts, Information Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Mass Communications, Integrated Marketing Communication, or related studies: 20 points
  • Experience in the fields of gender and women’s an empowerment / human rights related work: 20 points

Financial Evaluation (30%, 30 points): The points for the Financial Proposal will be allocated as per the following formula:

  • The contract will be awarded to the technically qualified consultant who obtains the highest combined score (financial and technical);
  • The points for the Financial Proposal will be allocated as per the following formula: (Lowest Bid Offered*)/ (Bid of the Consultant) x 30;
  • 'Lowest Bid Offered' refers to the lowest price offered by Offerors scoring at least 49 points in the technical evaluation.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW, and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
