You have:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in providing coordination, analytical, data analysis support and/or supporting global programmes related to gender equality and women’s rights
  • Experience in coordinating events, workshops, meetings and advocacy activities
  • Experience in using Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint and document sharing tools/platforms
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable
  • Knowledge of gender statistics is an asset

Background

To support member states in implementing the 2030 Agenda, UN Women’s Flagship Programme Initiative “Making Every Woman and Girl Count” (Women Count) Phase II aims to affect a radical shift in the availability, accessibility and use of data and statistics on key aspects of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Women Count Phase II is a multi-year and multi-country programme of work, supported by global, regional and country activities linking normative and technical work on gender statistics at the global level to the regional and national levels through three interlinked areas of work:

  • Building a supportive policy and institutional environment for the localization and effective monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • Increasing the quality, comparability and regularity of gender statistics to address national data gaps and meet reporting commitments under the SDGs; and
  • Ensuring that gender statistics are accessible to users in governments, civil society, academia and the private sector, to strengthen adequate demand for their production.

Under the supervision of the Programme and Knowledge Management Specialist, the consultant provides logistical support for the implementation of Women Count Phase II programmatic activities; coordinates advocacy events and the production of knowledge products under Women Count Phase II; provides operational and coordination support, liaising as necessary on matters related to monitoring and reporting and Phase II programme planning; provides support on knowledge management activities and contributes to the broader work of UN Women as it relates to Women Count.

The Generation Equality Action Coalitions are global, innovative and multi-stakeholder platforms and is urgently needed now than ever before. The Generation Equality Action Coalitions are an extraordinary opportunity, both in approach and level of ambition, to accelerate progress, increase investments in gender equality and make concrete change. The Action Coalitions are mobilizing governments, civil society, international organizations, and the private sector.

Six (6) specific themes are being addressed by the Action Coalitions including:

  1. Gender Based Violence;
  2. Economic Justice and Rights;
  3. Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR);
  4. Feminist action for climate justice;
  5. Technology and innovation for Gender Equality;
  6. Feminist movements and leadership.

Under the supervision of the Action Coalitions Chief Technical Specialist, the consultant will assist the Strategic Coordination and Operations Unit with knowledge management, internal and partner communications, events preparation, and writing assignments for the Action Coalitions and Generation Equality tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate knowledge management and internal/external communication activities for Women Count Phase II

  • Support the Programme Specialist in the design and implementation of the Women Count knowledge management strategy for Phase II, including contributing to the development of knowledge management systems and tools to improve internal and external efficiency in producing, storing and sharing information across all levels of implementation.
  • Provide support in overseeing efficient flow of information across all levels of implementation and facilitate dissemination and sharing of resources between global, regional and country offices including ensuring internal Document Hub is maintained.
  • Support in the logistical organization and execution of high-level global events and/or webinars, including supporting pre-webinar and post-webinar internal/external outreach activities, as needed.
  • In coordination with the Programme Specialist and Outreach Specialist provide support to update the Research and Data Intranet page for Women Count Phase II.
  • Support the Programme Specialist in developing and maintaining a document repository of project documents and resources from country and regional projects as part of Phase I project closure processes and a system for Phase II through Microsoft Teams.

Provide coordination and analytical support for the set up and implementation of Women Count Phase II

  • Provide logistical support to the Programme Specialist in the coordination and production of the Final Women Count Phase I Annual Report, and related publications, liaising with the design and printing vendors.
  • Develop and implement event planning and coordination tools for the timely preparation of workshops and meetings for programme as needed, with oversight from the Programme Specialist and Outreach Specialist.
  • Provide analytical support, as needed for reporting and monitoring activities of Women Count, in preparing Quarterly highlights, Annual Report, etc.
  • Provide analytical and quality assurance support to the Programme Specialist, as needed, to the review of Phase II country, regional and global project documents.

Facilitate knowledge building and sharing across the six Action Coalitions and Generation Equality with other UN Women teams by proactively identifying opportunities and processes for capturing and sharing knowledge

  • Map existing knowledge management processes in use to develop a knowledge management improvement and implementation plan and to strengthen information capture and knowledge dissemination internally within Generation Equality and with relevant UN women teams;
  • Review and update databases of relevant stakeholders intended as audiences for routine partner outreach and engagement such as e-newsletters and events bulletins;

Support draft writing and content development efforts in collaboration with UN Women colleagues for the Strategic Coordination and Operations Unit

  • Support drafting of written materials such as talking points, background notes, and proposals;
  • Aid partner engagement to support timely outreach such as invitations and notifications;
  • Aggregate content and liaise with internal Communications colleagues to help generate new content and respond to incoming requests;
  • Support in grants management and reporting, including drafting reports to be presented to donors with accompanying materials and annexures.

Assist in programme management support to ensure corporate-aligned work planning and delivery for the Strategic Coordination and Operations Unit

  • Draft inputs for programme strategies and documents (e.g. Prodoc) as needed;
  • Contribute to development of annual work plans to assure compliance with UN Women programme goals and results-based indicators;
  • Provide advice on the development of systems, processes and mechanisms to support programme planning, implementation, monitoring and progress reporting;
  • Coordinate information gathering and progress reports for internal and external reporting.

Coordinate and assist with the delivery of internal and external events if and as needed for the Strategic Coordination and Operations Unit

  • Coordinate and draft preparatory materials for internal and external events such as invitations, moderator briefs, speaker briefs, agendas, key messages, and run of show;
  • Maintain tracking of partners engaged and highlighted for AC events to ensure appropriate representation, including attention to gender, geography, and stakeholder type.

Deliverables:

Women Count Phase II:

  • Maintained and organized Women Count internal document Hub;
  • Maintained Microsoft Teams and Sharepoint site for Women Count team;
  • Support in organizing 2-3 Women Count Phase II webinars for broader UN Women;
  • Research & Data Intranet page is updated for Women Count Phase I & II;
  • Support in designing Women Count Phase II knowledge management strategy is provided;
  • Liaised with printing and design vendors to produce the Women Count Phase I Final Annual Report and related knowledge products;
  • Support to coordinate Women Count reporting processes, for the Annual Report provided;
  • Timely support provided to the Programme Specialist on programmatic processes, as needed, to ensure timely implementation and planning set up of Women Count Phase II.

Action Coalitions:

  • Knowledge management improvement and implementation plan, developed and delivered

  • Recommended internal communications plan and implementation strategy within AC Secretariat and UN Women, developed and delivered
