Eswatini offers generally stable and relatively comfortable living conditions, particularly in Mbabane, the administrative capital. Mbabane is the capital city of Eswatini, a landlocked nation adjacent to South Africa and Mozambique. It features an exceptionally close economic paradigm with South Africa (anchored by the Common Monetary Area), where the national currency (Lilangeni) is pegged directly to the South African Rand. Mbabane has a mild climate, access to basic goods and services, and a range of housing options, schools, health facilities, banks and supermarkets. Road travel between main towns is common, and public transport and taxis are available, although many residents prefer private transport for convenience. Healthcare services are accessible in both public and private facilities, with private care often preferred for routine needs. Internet, electricity and water services are generally available in urban areas, though occasional service interruptions may occur. Overall, Mbabane is considered a family duty station with a peaceful environment, welcoming local culture and good access to nature, while, as in any duty station, volunteers are expected to observe standard security precautions and follow UN security guidance.
