Result of Service The Content Creator will be integral to the overall result, outcome, and outputs linked to UNGSC Communications Strategy. The position will support the effective implementation of the strategy, leading to the timely delivery of a wide range of quality communications products across multiple channels to raise visibility and awareness of UNGSC’s work and impact with a coherent voice and in line with UN standards.

Work Location Home-based. On base (Brindisi) when required

Expected duration Six (6) months initially with possible extension

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technology services and training to all Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions around the world.

The activities will be performed remotely with possible travel to Brindisi for one week in every two months.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Administrative Officer in the Office of the Director, and in line with the established United Nations Rules and Procedures, the Content Creator will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Produce a wide range of communication products (e.g., press releases, articles for internal and external websites, factsheets/brochures, broadcast messages, talking points, visibility reports, presentations, social media posts, speeches), to include proposing topics, undertaking research, determining appropriate medium and target audience, liaising with technical teams, interviewing staff, writing drafts, editing copies, obtaining clearances and finalizing texts, as well as coordinating design approval and distribution;
  • Edit documents and content to conform to UN/UNGSC format, structure and style to contribute to brand consistency and ensure alignment with UN standards and guidelines;
  • Prepare initial drafts of media products, including video scripts, social media reels, speeches, reports and social media stories;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a monthly social media calendar and overall content plan for internal and external communication, ensuring adequate balance across topics, appropriate variety and agile approach, also supporting the design and implementation of targeted campaigns/series for social media and staff engagement;
  • Contribute to the revamp of UNGSC official website, editing and updating current webpages while adapting and creating new content to raise visibility of UNGSC’s work with external audiences and prospective clients, coordinating and cross-checking information with technical teams as required;
  • Act as main point of reference for content, across the organization, coordinating with focal points in technical teams, supporting the establishment of a community of comms focal points and strengthening capacity building – sharing lessons learnt and best practices for content production across channels;
  • Provide guidance to content production companies to ensure quality standards are met, strategic messaging is covered, and brand guidelines are respected in all the content produced through outsourcing services;
  • Monitor and analyze current events, public opinion and press, identify issues and trends, and advise management on appropriate action/responses;
  • Contribute to the content strategy leading up to International Days, events, engagement opportunities with external/internal stakeholders, while supporting the coherent development of the medium-term strategic messaging leading up to UNGSC 30th anniversary in line with the long-term vision for the organization;

    Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, languages or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related area is required. Experience drafting or editing media products (social media posts, articles, news releases, reports, etc.) at the international level is required. Experience working with digital communication outlets, including web sites or social media platforms is required. Experience providing support to an office of the United Nations common system, or a comparable international organization is desirable. Experience working or liaising with media and journalists is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
