Duties and Responsibilities United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the main agency in the UN system in charge of cities and urbanization. UN-Habitat celebrates Urban October every year. It starts with the World Habitat Day which is celebrated on the first Monday of October and ends with the World Cities Day which is marked on October 31.

During the month of October, UN-Habitat, Governments, partners and other stakeholders across the globe hold various events to highlight issues around urbanization. Consequently, all these activities are compiled as the Urban October Report. There is a long version and a short version.

UN-Habitat is looking for an experienced editor to compile the reports on the various events and edit them, along with providing photo captions from the information to put together this year’s Urban October Reports.

Definition of duties: Under the general supervision of UN-Habitat Chief of Communications and Media Section as well as the substantive officers, the incumbent will undertake the following activities: - Working in liaison with the headquarters and regional teams, collect all the relevant stories on activities held across the globe to mark Urban October including from the website and reaching out to partners. - Collect photos for the stories from the website and partners and write captions - Edit the stories on the events received - Decide on the format and put together both the short form and the long version of the Urban October Report - Work with the design team on the layout - Ensure that the Urban October Report is produced within the set deadline

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international studies or other relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: At least 5 years of professional and progressive working experience in writing and editing is required. Professional experience in working with an international organization is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
