Overview

Develop guides and deliver training on digital accessibility.

You have:

• Advanced degree in IT, web design, software development, programming or any other relevant field.
• Bachelor's degree with 2 years relevant experience OR certification in IT will also suffice.
• At least 7 years' experience in working on WCAG, ARIA, EN standards, ICT accessibility testing and auditing.
• Previous experience in creation of documents in accessible formats, specifically with the United Nations and/or other international organizations.
• Experience of conducting web and document accessibility trainings at international level.
• Experience of working with assistive technologies.
• Experience working with persons with disabilities.
• Fluency in English is required.

Result of Service 1. Six short guides and checklists produced on implementing web and digital accessibility: 15 days of work to be completed by 31 December 2. Up to Five virtual training sessions for UN staff on different aspects of web and digital accessibility: 10 days of work to be completed by 31 December 3. Review of web platforms and digital/online platforms on an ad hoc basis: 10 days of work to be completed between 20 October – 31 December 4. Technical assistance as required to entities and country teams on digital accessibility: 10 days of work to be completed between 20 October – 31 December

Work Location Remote

Expected duration The duration of the contract is expected to be for a period of 45 days of work between 20 October and 31 December 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities Working with the Disability team in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, the consultant will be responsible for supporting increased capacity of staff at HQ and country level to implement web and digital accessibility, which will in turn contribute to entity and country team implementation of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy, particularly indicator 6 on accessibility. The specific tasks that the consultant will undertake are as follows: 1. Developing short guidance notes and checklists on how to implement web and digital accessibility including producing documents in accessible formats - Short guides and checklists for creating accessible Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Emails, PDF and web pages - Total 6 guides/ checklists 2. Conducting virtual training sessions for UN Staff on different aspects of web and digital accessibility - Virtual trainings on creation of accessible documents and accessible web pages - Up to five sessions 3. Reviewing web platforms and digital / online products on demand for accessibility and suggest remediation advice wherever necessary - Submit detailed accessibility testing report with guidance to developers on fixing accessibility issues 4. Providing technical assistance to UN entities and country teams on digital accessibility, including accessibility of documents and publications - Support to be provided to approximately 10 entities and/or assistance to make up to 200 pages of documents/webpages accessible

Additional Information The consultant will report to the Senior Social Affairs Officer in the Disability Team within the Executive Office of the Secretary-General. The supervisor will evaluate the consultant’s timeliness, achievement of goals and quality of work.
