Duties and Responsibilities This consultancy assignment is with the United Nations Global Compact Office (UNGCO), located in the Global Operations Team in China.

The United Nations Global Compact is the United Nations' voluntary corporate sustainability initiative in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. It revolves around ten universal principles drawn from four key international instruments in these areas.

The Global Compact Office is the United Nations entity responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Global Compact initiative. It pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and collective action in support of United Nations, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Responsibilities:

- Lead the research with the objective to develop an SDG Impact Assessment Tool for Private Sector Players in BRI Infrastructure Projects through desk research, multi-stakeholder surveys/ interviews, experts group formation and consultation, literature review, etc.

- Consolidate the existing materials and supporting documents from various stakeholders and channels.

- Develop the toolkit on “SDG Impact Assessment Tool for Private Sector Players in BRI Infrastructure Projects’’, with the aim of measuring to what extent different infrastructure projects comply with the SDGs and inspire more companies towards alignment with the SDGs.

- Design a communication plan and consultation process to engage with multi-stakeholders, including the private sector, government, non-profit organizations, industrial associations, local networks, to collect inputs and feedback for the tool.

- Develop, test and promote the toolkit for private sector companies.

- Draft a proposal for promotion activities and email campaigns of the toolkit to target audiences within and beyond the BRI region.

- Plan and organize the toolkit launch event(s) to promote the toolkit and its research outcomes for the stakeholders from project countries in collaboration with relevant local networks and partners.

- Plan and deliver the training workshop(s)/webinar(s) to elevate the awareness and capacity of the private sector players in the project countries.

- Design and conduct surveys/questionnaires for participating companies before and after the trainings to measure and evaluate the improvement on awareness and knowledge on the Ten Principles and on the alignment of their business and investment with the Ten Principles.

- Collect, compile and draft best practices of corporate stakeholders as a result of the awareness raising and capacity enhancement leading to the better business alignment with the Global Compact Ten Principles.

- Develop the presentation deck and other materials on the basis of the research outcomes and the relevant content from UN Global Compact Academy for successful delivery of the training(s).

- Archive and update all the developed materials in an efficient and well-organized manner.

- Summarize the meeting minutes and recordings of the organized activities and events, including but not limited to consultations, dialogues, interviews, and trainings.

- Prepare an internal report on the project progress and calibrate with corrective actions whenever needed to ensure the project timeline is strictly followed.

- Plan and ensure the project delivery aligned with the previously identified financial plan.

- Distill and develop relevant content for communication and marketing purposes to provide cross-functional support.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: First level university degree in international development, sustainable development, economics, or a related field is required. Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is desirable. Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in programme/project management related to business/corporate sustainability is required.

Experience with data analysis is desirable.

Experience conducting research, designing surveys/questionnaires is desirable.

Experience working on corporate sustainability in both public and private sector is desirable.

Previous experiences on researching on sustainable infrastructure and the Belt and Road Initiative is desirable. Language: Fluency in English and Chinese is required.
