You have:

  • A first-level university degree in development, environmental science, civil engineering, climate change, disaster risk reduction, economy or another relevant field is required.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, Disaster Risk Management, climate change adaptation or similar is required.
  • Professional experience in Tajikistan and Central Asia, and in disaster risk reduction or climate change issues is desirable.
  • Experience in the design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects is desirable.
  • Experience working with UN agencies or similar international organizations to implement programs involving different funding and implementing agencies is desirable.
  • Experience in the Early Warning Systems thematic area is desirable.
  • Fluency in Russian and English is required.
  • Knowledge of Tajik is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG/ASG), UNDRR has over 140 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. It supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. This position is remote under the UNDRR Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia in Brussels. The Programme Management Support for implementation of risk knowledge DRR related activities reports to the Risk Knowledge Programme Management Officer in close coordination with the International Consultant and the United Nations Development Programme Istanbul Regional Hub.

Qualifications/special skills

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in Russian and English is required. Knowledge of Tajik is desirable.
