You have:
- University degree in medicine, health related specialties or other related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in immunization service delivery and management of immunization programmes.
- Experience in training and capacity building.
- Proficiency in Arabic and English is required.
1. Purpose of consultancy
The purpose of this consultancy is to build vaccinators’ capacity in primary healthcare centers on all aspects of immunization and service delivery. Using WHO immunization in practice training, the trainees will be trained on 6 different areas of immunization; target diseases and vaccines, vaccine cold chain, ensuring safe injections, managing immunization sessions, monitoring and surveillance, and partnering with communities. It will help build the capacity of the vaccinators on all aspects of immunization, improving their knowledge and practice. It will also help equip the vaccinators with the necessary skills to communicate with caregivers and their communities promoting vaccination.
2. Background
WHO is supporting countries in achieving their national immunization goals with an increased focus on the role of health workforce in ensuring the delivery of quality immunization services. Among the main recommendations of the EPI Comprehensive Review and immunization workforce training needs assessment was the need to build the capacity of vaccinators on various area of service delivery. In reference to that, the Ministry of Health in Jordan requested WHO support to conduct training of trainers followed by 2-day sessions in all districts and directorates to reach around 1300 vaccinators.
3. Work to be performed
In close collaboration and coordination with the Ministry of Health and WHO, the consultant is expected to perform the following tasks:
Output1: Contribute to the planning and organization of a three-day training workshop in collaboration with WHO Country Office for Jordan, the Ministry of Health/ National EPI, and relevant partners.
Deliverable 1.1: contribute to the preparatory phase of the vaccine management training:
• Review and update the training material adapted from the immunization in practice practical guide and the Ministry of Health immunization guideline.
• Translate the training materials to Arabic.
• Participate in the development of the training agenda.
• Contribute to the development of a monitoring tool to evaluate the impact of the training on the knowledge and practice of attendees (Pre and post evaluation test).
• Identify and engage different stakeholders and partners.
• Fully involve the EPI manager, national cold chain officer and relevant officials into the preparation and the training process to build their capacities for the needed preparations of future training activities.
Deliverable 1.2: Co-facilitate the training of trainers.
• Participate in the facilitators preparatory meeting on 8 October 2023.
• Lead different sessions during the training of trainers according to the agenda.
• Ensure to illustrate the theoretical part of the standards and practical issues with interpersonal communications and discussions throughout the course of the workshop.
• Participate in the development of the final version of the training report.
Deliverable 1.3: Participate in the planning and facilitation of follow-up sessions
• Participate in the preparation of the material that will be used in the follow-up training sessions.
• Guide Ministry of Health staff in the training sessions.
• Contribute to the delivery of the follow-up sessions in various governorates.
4. Qualifications, experience, skills and languages
- Qualifications required:
University degree in medicine, health related specialties or other related fields.
- Experience required:
At least 5 years of experience in immunization service delivery and management of immunization programmes.
Experience in training and capacity building.
- Skills / Technical skills and knowledge:
Very good presentation skills
Very good report-writing skills
Very good analytical capacities - excellent ability to synthesize information and relate action to results.
Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
Familiarity with WHO-recommended vaccination practices (immunization in practice practical guide)
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate in a multicultural environment.
5. Languages and level required:
Proficiency in Arabic and English is required.
6. Location:
Amman, Jordan (with visits to various governorates)
7. Planned timelines
(100 working days)
Start date: 1 November 2023
End date: 15 May 2024
8. Medical clearance
The selected Consultant will be expected to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work.
9. Travel
Visit to all 12 governorates to support and facilitate the training sessionsl
