Background

Background/Context

UN Women is grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action at national, regional, and global levels.

Un Women Mozambique Country Office developed its 2023-2026 Strategic note followed by a biannual workplan that began in January of 2023. This year 2024 is the second year of its implementation. The first and the second year provided opportunities, challenges and lessons learnt that will be useful during the subsequent years of implementation. In addition, Mozambique is faced with conflict in the north and the central part of the country and is preparing for the elections in October 2024, elements that impact the CO’s programming and operations.

In this regard, the country office recognizes the importance of continuous improvement and strategic planning in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment. The annual retreat serves as a platform for reflection, collaboration, and strategizing to enhance the country office ‘s overall impact in Mozambique.

Against this background, UN Women Mozambique is planning to host a retreat for all staff during the week of 17th to 21st June 2024 in Mozambique. This year's retreat will focus on the status of implementation of the recommendations from the previous retreat report, refining program implementation strategies, discuss the development of the new bi-annual work plan and the focus areas such as scaling up resource mobilization efforts, and strengthening human resource management practices. The retreat will bring together all staff to reflect on its previous recommendations, improve collaboration, and strategizing to enhance the country office ‘s overall impact in Mozambique.

Duties and Responsibilities

The external facilitator will be required to facilitate the overall retreat, ensure a smooth flow in the agenda, and capture the most important action points and recommendations from the retreat for implementation.

Scope of work:

Under the guidance of the UN Women Country Representative, Mozambique, the Consultant will undertake the following tasks :

Attend planning meetings with the UN Women Retreat Committee to ensure indepth understanding of the retreat objectives, content, discussions, and expectations.

  • Develop a 2 page write up to show how s/he will facilitate the retreat based on the pogramme that has been developed and shared by country office
  • Facilitate retreat sessions over four days in an interactive manner, using various participatory methodologies
  • Prepare a summary of key action points and rrecomemndations for each day, in conjuction with the co facilitators within the team.
  • Submit to UN Women Mozambique a retreat report including a summary highlighting key issues and recommendations agreeed upon

Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel

As part of delivering on the assignment, the consultant will be required to travel to the identified venue in Mozambique.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in related fields including Mass communication, Gender and Women Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or other related discipline. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of both national and international proven and substantive experience in delivering related services
  • At least 3 years of experience in designing, planning and conducting trainings Team Building;
  • Ability to guide planning sessions in a coherent and professional manner;
  • Demonstrated ability to write and present high quality reports and programme documents.
  • Familiarity and experience working with the UN system will be an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.
  • Knowledge of any other UN official language is an asset.
