How can you make a difference?

Scope of Work:

Under the supervision of the WASH Specialist, the consultant will conduct a desk review of menstrual health and hygiene strategies, programming frameworks, policies and investments in South Asia. The primary areas of work are the following:

1. Conduct a literature review of menstrual health and hygiene, programmes, policies and strategies within UNICEF South Asia Region and in the wider WASH sector in South Asia, including recent shifts due to COVID-19

    • Develop robust research strategy;
    • Identify, collect and review menstrual health and hygiene strategies, programming frameworks, evaluations and similar documents
    • Map the scope of menstrual health and hygiene programming in UNICEF SAR countries
    • Map identified programmes, policies and strategies against the UNICEF 2016–2030 WASH Strategic Framework, including recent shifts as part of the Covid-19 pandemic
    • Map opportunities for intersectoral programmes focusing on the adolescent girl overall
  1. Map the stakeholder landscape for menstrual health and hygiene programming, including recent shifts in South Asia
    • Identify past and current stakeholders (cross-sectoral not exclusive to WASH) and their investment in menstrual health and hygiene
    • Map stakeholders by their programmatic and geographic interests and investment strategies,
  2. Develop a synthesis report highlighting the current scope and approaches to menstrual health and hygiene programming and mapping the stakeholder landscape in South Asia
    • Summarize findings of desk review in a slide deck
    • Develop recommendations to strengthen MHH programming, including intersectoral linkages
    • final report

Tasks/Milestone:

  • Identify, collect and review MHH strategies, programming frameworks, policies, evaluations and similar documents;
  • Develop a work plan with timelines
  • Undertake a systematic review of identified literature
  • Map the stakeholder landscape
  • Develop and submit the synthesis documents.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Advanced University Degree in Public Health, Engineering, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Communications Sciences, International Relations, or related fields.

A University degree with 5 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a Master degree is acceptable.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • Advanced university degree in related technical or specialized field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in WASH, Public Health, policy review and/or programme design, including academic work
  • Experience conducting systematic reviews of literature, strategies, policies and/or assessments/evaluations and synthesizing complex content into easily comprehendible text and visuals according to audience’s needs
  • Experience working on water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes, including strengthening the enabling environment
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) in English are required
  • Results-oriented, diligent, independent and reliable working style
  • Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrates the core values of UNICEF

Note: Duration of contract is for 30 days from the start of the contract till the end of the year, 2022. This consultancy is home-based.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
