Overview

Establish contacts and collect data for a regional study on medical crime.

You have:

  • An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, criminology, forensics, public administration, public health, political science, international relations or closely related fields is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in fields related to falsified medical-product related crime is required.
  • Fluency in English with excellent drafting and communication skills is required.
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
  • Work experience related to combating transnational organized crime in Southeast Asia and the Pacific is desirable.

Result of Service Contacts with relevant national authorities are established, data is collected and inputs are provided to the regional study assessing falsified medical product-related crime threats in Southeast Asia.

Work Location Home-based with possible travel in the region Countries of travel: ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) Estimated travel dates: April-May 2022

Expected duration 20 (forty) working days within 1 March 2022 – 31 July 2022

Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (Criminal Justice), and under the overall guidance of the UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, the consultant will work in close collaboration with the UNODC project staff to undertake the following activities:

A) Liaison with relevant national authorities to collect data for the regional study assessing falsified medical product-related crime threats in Southeast Asia;

B) Collection and sharing of data on different types of falsified medical products being produced and trafficked in the region, countries of origin/transit/destination, modi operandi, involvement of organized criminal groups and estimated size of the illicit market;

C) Provision of inputs for the drafting, review and finalization of the study.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in the fields of law, criminology, forensics, public administration, public health, political science, international relations or closely related fields is required. A first-level university degree OR equivalent academic education, professional training with certification from a recognized international/national police, customs or other staff training institution, with specialization in criminal justice, crime prevention, criminal investigation, law enforcement and/or other related areas, in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: - A minimum of 10 years of experience in fields related to falsified medical-product related crime is required. - Work experience at the international level is desirable. - Work experience related to combating transnational organized crime in Southeast Asia and the Pacific is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English, with excellent drafting and communication skills, is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
