Duties and Responsibilities The UNDRR Office for Europe and Central Asia (ROECA) supports Member States in 55 countries of the region for implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. For this, ROECA engages with national and local authorities and a large range of stakeholders. As part of its action ROECA supported in 2021 the endorsement of the regional roadmap 2021-2030 for disaster risk reduction. From 2022 ROECA develops follow-up interventions and support Member States for turning this agreement into action. This implementation process will include several specific multilateral meetings and regional participation to global events focusing on the last seven years of implementation of the Sendai Framework.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2015-2030 recognizes the Global and Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction as key mediums for its implementation, building on the pivotal role that they have played in supporting the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action. Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction are multi-stakeholder forums that are dynamic forums for policymakers, partners, experts and practitioners to announce initiatives, launch products, share information, promote campaigns and actions, monitor progress and provide evidence about disaster risk reduction. The European Forum for DRR 2021 endorsed the Roadmap 2021-2030 which will guide and support European and Central Asian Member States and stakeholders for accelerating action for DRR and climate change adaptation. This Roadmap will be concretized through a number of support actions which will be facilitated or co-organized by UNDRR ROECA. - Presentations, training workshops and capacity building sessions - Action Oriented Dialogues - Focused implementation of UNDRR Technical Support Offer - Management of a light monitoring process - Coordination of a steering committee

The consultant will report to the Associate Programme Management Officer in charge of the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) Roadmap implementation and will support its related actions. The consultant will provide adequate support to UNDRR ROECA Office, Members States, partners and stakeholders in the implementation of the Roadmap and more specifically the organization of the Action Oriented Dialogues.

Main responsibilities include: - Support the logistic and substantive preparation of the events in coordination with host countries and partners. - Support the work of the associate programme management officer in relation with EFDRR process and EFDRR Roadmap implementation. Support the UNDRR ROECA Office in its daily work and communication activities.

Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree in social sciences, education, national resource management, disaster risk management, social sciences, law, public relations or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with a minimum of two years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages Fluency in written and spoken English is required, knowledge of other UN official languages is an asset.

Additional Information Minimum of one year of progressively responsible professional experience in the following: - Functional knowledge and professional experience in the field of disaster risk reduction, climate change, sustainable development or related fields is required; - Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, leading and facilitating workshops and meetings is required: - Demonstrated experience in relations with Member States and intergovernmental conferences is required.
